Job Opportunity: Head of Grid UK

Location: Hybrid working arrangement with regular visits to the London office.

Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Grid UK, covering voltages from 20kV up to 400kV across the UK. This role is critical to the smooth execution and progression of substation, transmission, and distribution line projects for large-scale PV or WIND power plants and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Your responsibilities will include overseeing project execution, maintaining quality control, managing technical coordination, and ensuring thorough documentation. You will also be responsible for liaising with stakeholders, consultants, subcontractors, and third-party advisors.

Reporting directly to the client's Head of Grid, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our UK grid development strategy. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to take the lead on critical grid initiatives, with significant opportunities for professional growth as our company expands.

While the position is based in the London office, you will have the flexibility of a hybrid working model, with regular travel to the office required. Additionally, you will travel across Europe approximately once a month to meet with consultants and subcontractors or visit construction sites.

In this leadership position, you'll have the opportunity to build and guide a small team of junior and intermediate Grid Managers.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • A degree in electrical engineering, renewable energy, or a related discipline with a focus on energy technology.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience with UK Independent Connection Providers (ICPs), National Grid ESO, and/or Distribution Network Operators (DNOs and IDNOs).
  • Strong project management experience in connecting power plants to the grid, covering medium to extra-high voltage levels.
  • Comprehensive understanding of energy technology and its components, including civil engineering, concrete, steel, prefabricated construction, and electromechanical works.
  • Deep knowledge of the European NC RfG (Network Code Requirements for Generators) and UK grid compliance codes.
  • Experience with CAD design in projects up to 400kV, especially in civil, steel construction, and switch gear design, would be advantageous.
  • Prior experience in managing and leading teams is highly desirable.

  • Competence in working under pressure, prioritising tasks, and managing your workload independently.
  • Enthusiasm for working in a dynamic and highly engaged team, with the ability to work autonomously.
  • A proactive and flexible approach, with a strong sense of responsibility and initiative.
  • Proficiency in English, as it is the primary language in our client's multicultural work environment.
