Your Mission: As a Senior Mechanical Engineer , you will be at the forefront of designing and developing submarine systems. This is your chance to take on a pivotal role that includes: Leading design activities for Hydraulic/Mechanical systems and equipment for the next generation of Royal Navy submarines. Conducting functional design activities, modeling, and analysis. Producing design documentation, Verification & Validation evidence, and safety justifications. Collaborating with suppliers for specification qualification and procurement of components. Engaging with stakeholders across a cross-functional project team. Driving engineering governance through peer and design reviews. Your Skills and Experience: Essential: Strong experience in designing hydraulic/mechanical systems, ideally in complex, safety-critical environments (e.g., maritime, aerospace, defence, nuclear, oil & gas, and sub-sea). Familiarity with systems involving hydraulic power units (HPUs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), control cabinets, pumps, electric motors, hydraulic actuators, hydro-static transmissions, and fluid mechanics. Proven capability in system lifecycle delivery—from concept to commissioning. Demonstrated leadership through technical direction, mentoring, or project ownership. Chartered engineer status or working towards professional accreditation. Desirable: Familiarity with design standards such as ASME, BS EN, and other applicable standards. Previous engagement with suppliers or stakeholders on hydraulic/mechanical systems (experience with hydraulic control logic is a plus, but not required).
