DEPUTY FINANCE CONTROLLER (Fixed Term Contract - 6 Months - Potential to go perm)
ROLE PURPOSE
The Deputy Finance Controller is responsible for ensuring that all of the statutory, compliance and legislative reporting requirements across the organisation are met. This role will also be the key contact for our Statutory Audit, liaising with our auditors and the rest of the business to ensure our accounts and corporation tax returns are filed on time.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Key responsibilities include:
- Involvement in the year-end audit along with the production of the year-end group consolidation, subsidiary workings and production of statutory accounts and other financial reports in conformance with applicable accounting and reporting standards (IFRS)
- Work with internal and external constituents on meeting relevant tax, annual return and financial statement reporting requirements (including PSA, R&D and general HMRC correspondence)
- Corporation tax compliance including quarterly calculations of tax payable, preparation of year-end tax packs for tax advisors and dealing with subsequent queries arising
- Act as technical accounting and taxation point for the finance department. This will include preparation of periodic technical updates to educate the wider finance team of forthcoming legislative/tax changes
- Preparation and submission of annual external compliance reporting requirements including (Annual Returns, National Stat Forms, etc..)
- Working with finance and our internal risk and audit manager to independently test and review the adequacy of all financial controls, providing recommendations where necessary
- Other compliance projects as required.
- Support the Commercial Finance Director / Financial Controller with any ad-hoc requirements/projects.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
- Qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA.
- Possess strong technical accounting skills (consolidations, up to date UK GAAP and FRS/IFRS knowledge with substantial hands-on financial accounting experience. Particular emphasis on FRS102 conversions.
- Excellent working knowledge of corporation tax and VAT
- Strong analytical skills (advanced Excel is essential) and attention to detail combined with the ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Have a logical, structured approach to allow clear presentation of information
- Strong time management and organisational skills
- Display a positive, proactive and flexible approach to any task and have the ability to deliver in a fast-paced and challenging environment and to tight deadlines.
- Financial modelling skills.
DESIRABLE SKILLS
- Audit / financial control background
- Strong influencing, presentation and communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Ability to work on their own as well as in a team, and not afraid to take on a hands-on role and make it their own
