Behaviour Support Practitioner Enfield £23/hr Start date: ASAP AKTON Recruitment is working closely with the local authorities and we are looking for a Behaviour Support Practitioner in the Enfield area. Purpose of the Role: The purpose of this post is to provide a targeted, bespoke support to disabled children and their families, in situations where there is a risk of family breakdown due to behaviours of concern. This is a 1 year contract working as part of a team delivering the Empowering Families and Networks in Enfield project. The Behaviour Support Practitioner will: Work shifts flexibly between the hours of 8am - 11pm Monday to Sunday on a rota basis. Provide intensive, high quality, safe care and support to children and young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder, learning disability, behaviours of concern, and those who may be experiencing a mental health crisis, using a Positive Behaviour Support framework. This support may include:
- Supporting children and young people in the home, the Centre, or in the community to give parents a break from their caring responsibilities.
- Working intensively with parents, carers, and school settings to embed strategies and interventions that affect change, build skills, and develop resilience.
- Providing specialist advice and support to families on the phone, or in person, to prevent escalation of behaviours of concern in challenging situations.
- Support discharges from hospital, particularly out of normal work hours, working closely with health professionals, social care colleagues, parents/carers, and school staff.
- As a regular and intrinsic part of this role requires you to speak to members of the public in English, the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential and consistent with the requirements of this role. This role also requires you to be polite and courteous when conversing with the public.
- Proven ability to work directly with disabled children and young people, who have multiple and complex needs and behaviours of concern, in a professional setting, in family homes, and in the community.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to present information to varied audiences, and demonstrate specialist skills to communicate with disabled children and young people using varied methods.
- Experience of working effectively in co-operation and partnership with professionals, partner agencies, private sector bodies, public agencies, voluntary bodies, and statutory agencies in relation to disabled children and their families
