The post-holder will be a highly experienced, knowledgeable practitioner who provides leadership in practice development and education to the non-medical workforce. The Senior Clinical Educator will provide management and development support to junior educators. Through the design and implementation of education the practice development practitioner will contribute to interprofessional learning and clinical excellence. In order to deliver education that meets service needs and priorities the practice development practitioner will work collaboratively with clinical managers, the corporate education team, and external partners.


As a senior practitioner with specialist knowledge the post-holder will be active in supporting and furthering quality and governance structures. They will represent practice development and education on behalf of their clinical area. Senior Clinical Educators will be able to:


Work to an agreed job plan to maximise education delivery to support staff and patient safety/experience.
Supervise and manage clinical educators to promote effective working across the education team.
Deliver education programmes at a divisional level and where required cross divisionally in support of organisational priorities.
Work as part of the local and corporate practice development teams
Manage and lead education teams
Develop, implement, and evaluate education programmes
Work as part of the local and corporate practice development teams
Identify and support audit, service improvement and research projects

On a regular planned basis, or in response to an emergent need, contribute to clinical practice by working alongside learners delivering clinical care. Demonstrate and promote a high standard of person-centred, holistic care.


Lead an education team according to requirements outlined within the post holders job plan.


Use professional judgement in managing complex and unpredictable care events


Demonstrate and promote the effective management of patient journey / flow by teaching and contributing to the development of systems for operational performance


Be highly effective in using skilled interpersonal communication to convey information and advocate for the interests and well-being of those for whom they are responsible
Education, Training, Qulifications and Experience
Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of NMC / HCPC revalidation
Evidence of specialist knowledge appropriate to the clinical area or practice development and education
A post-graduate certificate in teaching
Familiar with and able to effectively use common office software suites (e.g. MS Office)
Experience designing, delivering and evaluating programmes of education

Demonstrates the ability to put patients at the heart of what they do and meet differing needs by fostering a spirit of support, integrity, respect and teamwork
Shows pride in the quality of care they provide for patients and provides evidence of learning from both successes and setbacks
Able to identify high standards of health care and demonstrate the proven capacity to champion change and innovation that delivers these high standards
Evidences the ability to proactively support and develop colleagues in the delivery of care commensurate with Trust values and behaviours
Able to identify the role of education in fulfilling these values and demonstrates a passion for education in this context

Articulate and knowledgeable regarding skills needed to deliver a high standard of care in the area of practice
Has and continues to measurably contribute to the education of learners and non-registered and less experienced staff
Demonstrates ability to maintain and contribute to the development of standards of practice, conduct or decision making in conjunction with team leaders/ward manager/unit co-ordinator
Able to supervise non-registered and registered colleagues to ensure effective care delivery
Able to effectively and appropriately escalate concerns to reduce risk and promote patient safety
