The Emergency Department (ED) is a small-medium friendly department seeing approximately 64,000 adult and paediatric patients per year.

The rota is an extremely flexible annualised rota to ensure sustainable working and good work life balance. A full-time consultant works 10 sessions per week with 7 clinical sessions and 3 SPA sessions. Each Consultant has a key role to play in the department as part of their non-clinical sessions and we are looking for someone to join our happy team.

Main duties of the job

To provide a clinical service, with colleagues, which will include the responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness. Working with consultant colleagues and the multi-professional team you will have continuing responsibility for the well-being of all patients under your care, allowing for proper delegation to, and training of staff. In partnership with clinical and managerial colleagues, you will also have responsibility for the safe, efficient and effective functioning of the services in which you work in line with the values, operational policies and integrated medium term plan (IMTP) of the Health Board.

Job responsibilities
  • Providing a clinical service, including responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness
  • Continuing responsibility for the well-being of all patients under your care allowing for proper delegation to, and training of staff
  • Responsible for the safe, efficient and effective functioning of the services in which you work
  • Participating in an annualised rota which will encompass clinical shop floor sessions, on call commitments, and patient-related administration
  • Making a significant contribution to the service and specialty within the Health Board through active participation in the clinical structure
  • Acting as Educational Supervisor for those assigned to you
  • Delivering departmental teaching for the multi-disciplinary staff groups
  • Participating in the Health Board's risk management process, clinical governance, and any other healthcare governance activities within the department, the directorate, the hospital and the health board

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
  • On specialist register with GMC as a specialist in Emergency Medicine or eligible for CTT / CESR within 6 months
  • Eligibility to live and work in the UK

Desirable

  • Sub-specialty Paediatric Emergency Medicine

Knowledge
Essential

  • Evidence of an ability to develop effective working relationships with all levels of staff
  • Evidence of working with management and clinical colleagues to improve a service
