We are recruiting an SES Project Technical Manager to join us for a fixed term of 18 months to support the A66 Northern Trans-Pennine project.
As SES Project Technical Manager you will work as part of the SES Technical Partner team to manage the day-to-day interfaces between Safety, Engineering and Standards (SES) and the Major Project delivery team for the A66 Northern Trans-Pennine project in the Regional Investment Programme. Contributing to and supporting appropriate project technical assurance, in line with business requirements and project schedule.
The A66 Northern Trans-Pennine is a Major Project scheme to improve the A66 between the M6 at Penrith and A1(M) at Scotch Corner. The project will involve upgrading single carriageway sections of road to dual carriageway standard and making improvements to the junctions along the route to improve safety, help make journeys more reliable and support the regional and local economy.
This role is to be based in any of our northern offices (including Leeds, Manchester, Penrith or Darlington), although travel to our other offices and locations will sometimes also be required. 
Support the Technical Partner in the development and delivery of project assurance activities in line with the business plan and project schedule and supporting the Group Manager and Divisional Director in setting overall strategy and direction.
Use matrix management to develop and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders (including Major Projects, Operations and supply chain) and to ensure a good level of technical service and collaboration in the delivery of project and business objectives, and to help manage SES resource demands. 
Support the Technical Partner in the implementation of standards and technical governance controls on the project, contribute to the resolution or escalation of technical risk and issues, and provide advice and guidance to internal and external stakeholders. 
Facilitate improvements across the project by working with the Technical Partner to provide advice on lessons learnt and support change to help embed new ways of working with technical specialist teams. 
Appropriate professional qualification, or working towards, with knowledge of one or more technical disciplines and familiarity with our standards, policies and principles, such as the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB).
Experience of working in a project environment and working with delivery partners in line with project and business needs.
Good communications skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at different organisational levels (including Senior Managers) and to influence and negotiate to achieve positive outcomes.
