The Project Development Engineer will be working with our Development and Engineering teams to support the development of high-quality and efficient solar PV projects. The Project Development Engineer will work within the development team to evaluate, analyze, and design in-house development projects. Responsibilities include evaluation of prospective sites for solar projects; analysis of existing internal or 3rd party PV designs; solar energy system design and layout with a major focus on optimizing projects for highest development financial returns; interconnection design and equipment selection; energy production analysis; interconnection application preparation; interfacing with applicable utilities and ISO throughout the interconnection process; participating in meetings with project stakeholders to support technical topics; originating and implementing creative and innovative engineering, equipment, and technical solutions to overcome challenges encountered during development; and process management.

The Project Development Engineer should be a creative problem solver, effective communicator, and team player. The position will require superior cross-functional skills including close coordination with CS Energy’s project development, estimating, and engineering teams in addition to interfacing with 3rd party consultants and other project stakeholders with the end goal of improving the quality and value of CS Energy’s in-house development projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Review and evaluate new site opportunities for development suitability based on internal guidelines for various project types and general engineering and construction best practices
  • Review and evaluate existing PV designs for internal or 3rd party designs for red-flags, inefficiencies, or opportunities for cost-savings
  • Develop layouts and electrical design packages for solar PV systems at various levels of detail for internal review, interconnection applications, stakeholder discussions, or permitting submissions
  • Support project financing via technical due diligence requests and interfacing with financiers’ engineers.
  • Perform energy production modeling for our development projects and to help establish the most optimal project design that maximizes development value.
  • Provide value engineering solutions during development, pre-construction and construction phases
  • Coordinate with civil, electrical, environmental, and structural engineering firms to obtain detailed civil and environmental design packages from third party vendors/firms that meet all contractual and permitting requirements
  • Develop single-line and three-line diagrams with required electrical details for solar PV systems in accordance with NEC, IEEE, NESC, utility interconnection tariffs and requirements, and local AHJ as necessary
  • Lead the project interconnection approval process as the primary point of contact with the interconnecting utilities and ISOs from the application process through final design approval
  • Attend meetings with clients, State and local permitting authorities, other project stakeholders, subcontractors, and vendors regarding engineering and technical issues related to the solar PV system
  • Develop technical specifications and scopes of work for engineering firms and contractors
  • Coordinate electrical integration and interconnection of energy storage systems
  • Mentor and train team members on project design, interconnection, and energy modeling
  • A 4-year degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical preferred)
  • 4 or more years solar PV design, design/build, or EPC field experience
  • Experience in electrical interconnection design & coordination (LV & MV)
  • Experience in high voltage design and coordinate (highly desired)
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and PVSYST
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • NABCEP Certified PV Installation Professional is an advantage
  • PE License is an advantage
  • Proficiency in ETAP, ASPEN, PSSE, or SKM power system analysis software is an advantage
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
