Reporting to the COO, the head of Safety will lead, develop, and implement a Zero harm strategy across the UK Group operations to meet future growth, safety, performance.

This will be achieved through a consistent focuson people, operational excellence, and a commercial approach, with an understanding and awareness of industry specific business challenges.

Accountabilities

1. Lead, define, and implement the Group’s Safety strategy and vision ensuring compliance in all areas.

2. Provide professional counsel and support to the Managing Directors in the areas of health and safety including accidents, investigations, systems, and training.

3. Drive improvements in Safety performance through gap analysis, developing capability, programmes to reduce risk to develop best practice.

4. Develop a ZERO HARM behavioural change programme to develop a Safety positive culture.

5. Coach, lead, and mentor a team of devolved Safety team across the operational businesses

6. Lead complex accident investigations with effective data analysis to the Board to help drive improvements and a preventative approach to Safety.

7. Maintain a positive and effective relationship with and external stakeholders e.g., Insurance Companies, Lawyers, and Insurance Brokers.

8. Coordinate, review and maintain the function of all Safety related systems at Group level to ensure they meet the commercial needs of all business units and varying stakeholders (e.g., Intelex, Internal Audit Platforms etc).

9. Drive all relevant Safety KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) and ensure that businesses are held to account to support delivery.

10. Monitor and ensure that all businesses are meeting their compliance obligations as set by the Group and external legal statutory requirements.

11. Undertake in depth internal audits against all relevant businesses, processes, policies, and procedures.

12. Oversee and maintain all Safety specific accreditations/certifications at Group level while supporting the business units with new operational needs/demands.

  • Proven experience in a complex organisation, ideally within Utilities, engineering and/orconstruction.
  • Understanding and a passion for current best practice in safety legislation and principles
  • Strong technical expertise across Safety legislation, with relevant professional qualificationsand membership pf relevant professional body i.e., CMIOSH.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering behavioral change programmes, that has led to apositive Safety Culture.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, with the ability to be able to build credibleworking relationships.
  • Understanding of data and analytics with the ability to explain return of investment for Safetywithin the businesses
  • Desired experience within a similar sector, or other industry experience or similar
    experience of managing a national and diverse team.
  • High level of knowledge and understanding on all legislative and other requirements relatingto our operating industries and Safety.
