Head of Learning and Organisational Development


We're looking for a Head of Learning and OD to lead our people development services. This role will be responsible for delivery of our Talent Management agenda, Organisational Development, Coaching, Mentoring, Learning and development, vocational development and provision of library services to both WUTH and Wirral Community NHS Trust.


We work in collaboration with partners from Wirral system and Liverpool City Region as part of WUTH's commitment to creating work and development opportunities for our local communities.

The role will oversee various people development initiatives including:


The design and implementation of various Leadership Development projects
Talent Development
Implementation of a new appraisal and check-in (supervision) approach at WUTH
Implementation of WUTH Training and Education Directory
Apprenticeships and Vocational Development
Mandatory training and Trust Induction
Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is situated on The Wirral peninsula which has a stunning coastline and beautiful countryside surroundings, with great activities for its residents.


We are one of the largest and busiest acute Trusts in the North West of England, comprising of the Wirral's only Emergency Department. We provide a high quality range of acute care services and employ over 6,000 staff, who serve a population of approximately 400,000 people across Wirral, Ellesmere Port, Neston, North Wales and the wider North West footprint.


We have approximately 855 beds trust-wide and our financial turnover is in excess of 337m.


The Wirral is easily accessible with excellent transport links including motorway, train, bus or ferry and within easy reach to the major cities of Liverpool, Chester and Manchester as well as neighbouring North Wales.
This role is a senior leader and we are looking for suitable senior leadership experience.
Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training
Educated to Master's Degree level in a relevant subject area
Qualification in training / teaching
Evidence of Continuous professional development
Academic qualification or training to act as workplace coach/mentor.

Ability to travel
More than 5 years' experience at a senior management / leadership level within an Organisational Development or Learning and Development environment
Extensive OD and Change Management experience at senior management level
Experience of leading large / complex projects, workforce/OD initiatives
Knowledge of training needs analysis and evaluation methodologies
Financial knowledge and the ability to manage a substantial budget
Knowledge and understanding of business planning service redesign and implementation
Excellent understanding of Education Governance and Academic Frameworks and national standards


Flexible and adaptive in approach, creative and proactive in delivering OD solutions
Passionate about the development of individuals and teams to maximise their potential

Able to design and deliver a range of competency development programmes at all levels of the organisation within national frameworks
Creative and use imagination to come up with solutions

Knowledge of recent NHS/DoH education, development and engagement agendas
Understanding of the competency and academic frameworks that underpin the OD remit
