Job description
Job responsibilities

The LTHT Microbiology Department is now one of the largest in the UK, processing ~1 million specimens per year. Microbiology Department is a discrete laboratory and clinical service that sits within the Pathology Clinical Services Unit (CSU). We are delighted to announce that Microbiology services would be based at the Centre for Laboratory Medicine, the new pathology laboratory at St Jamess University Hospital. The new laboratory has been designed to accommodate the future requirements of the WYAAT Pathology network. The current plans are for a single hub facility for the provision of Microbiology and Virology within WYAAT.

Managing an increased volume of testing across the region will rely on a network that can deliver an efficient, standardised service. Consistency in microbiology and virology testing across the region would reduce variation to provide our patients a high-quality accredited service. At the St Jamess laboratory, purpose-built facilities, the potential for new technologies and increased automation will play a key role in meeting this need. It is expected that the new pathology building will be fully operational by autumn 2024.
