Job summary

We are looking to appoint a Senior Clinical NurseSpecialist in Gender Healthcare to join the West of England Gender IdentityClinic based at The Laurels in Exeter. This is a new substantive post followingsubstantial investment in the clinic and will form part of a new Clinical NurseSpecialist Team.

The West of England Specialist Gender IdentityClinic is a centre of excellence for the provision of advice and treatment forgender dysphoria for people aged 18 and older. We accept referrals from acrossthe country and provide personalised care and treatment plans to meet ourpatients individual needs.

Our multi-disciplinary team works with people whohave a wide variety of needs related to their gender identity.

The successful candidate will possess excellentinterpersonal skills and have a flexible approach to service delivery. We arelooking for a team player who enjoys working in a multi-disciplinary settingwith highly experienced and skilled staff. You must also be capable of leadingthe CNS team as well as contributing at senior level to development of ourservices.

Main duties of the job

To provide a defined level of specialistassessment and access to interventions for transgender patients.

To be a Transgender HealthcareProfessional and work as part of the service to support patients in line withthe NHS England national service specification.

The role requires the post holder to bea named professional for patients and undertake both assessment and follow-upresponsibilities for an identified case load of transgender and non-binarypatients.

The role involves monitoring genderaffirming hormones for trans male, trans female and non-binary patients.

The post holder will be part of the teamproviding a service to patients and, on occasions their families, includingdirect and indirect clinical work that supports the Medical Lead and ServiceManager in developing the service.

To demonstrate active clinical andmanagerial leadership skills within the team, providing education andsupervision, where required, to junior team members and other professionals.

Experienced registered nurse (MentalHealth/Learning Disabilities or General), with current registration with theNursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), and NMP qualification.

The role requires a clinician withspecialist skills to assess patients needs analyse and formulate treatmentplans within a multi-disciplinary framework.

The post holder works autonomouslywithin professional guidelines and the overall framework of the servicespolicies and procedures.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Non-Medical Prescriber.
  • Maintains current registration with NMC.
  • Willingness to undertake new clinical practices, education and training that will enhance service delivery.
  • Relevant Masters degree or working towards.
  • Demonstrate continued professional development to maintain professional registration.
  • Training in transgender healthcare.
Experience
  • Experience of individual patient case management responsibility.
  • Substantial experience of MDT working.
  • Demonstrates satisfactory clinical expertise for the banding.
  • Line management of staff.
  • Experience of clinical working with transgender and non-binary patients.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of the Interface of psychological and physical aspects of healthcare.
  • Experience of prescribing and/or supervising the prescription of gender affirming medical treatment.
  • Knowledge of the Trusts Non-Medical prescribing policy and local procedure.
  • Knowledge of the legal, social, and societal aspects of gender diversity
