Derby Derbyshire, United Kingdom University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust Full time

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) has one of the largest maternity services in the UK, providing maternity care across Derbyshire and into Staffordshire.

We want to provide woman-centred, family friendly care and offer a range of models of midwifery and obstetric care provision. This includes midwife-led care, continuity of carer models, and specialist care provided by our obstetric teams for women with more complex needs, as well as community midwifery services.

This is an exciting new hybrid role that will involve working closely with the Labour ward manager, Matron's and Deputy Head of Midwifery to manage the maternity staff and resources within the ward/department areas to provide high quality and cost-effective clinical care. You will work closely with the Clinical Midwifery Manager (Intrapartum Matron) and the existing Band 7 midwives, to ensure that the Maternity Unit is operationally safe, effective and well led.
To manage the shift and have clinical responsibility for the area.

To be proactive in the development of midwifery within the Maternity Unit.

You will also provide leadership to midwifery and non-midwifery staff, ensuring effective management of the daily activity and throughput within the maternity unit. At UHDB around 9,000 babies are born across our two sites each year at Royal Derby Hospital (RDH) and Queens Hospital Burton (QHB). We provide antenatal and postnatal care for 11,500 women each year and, at RDH, we offer an alongside birth centre. We support women through low and high-risk care pathways, and some specialty pathways like diabetes and cardiology.

4million investment into our services to strengthen our workforce, our technology and our processes, so that we can further improve what we do and deliver the best quality care to women and their babies. This is a great opportunity to join UHDB and make a real impact for the women and families we care for.

As a University Trustwe value learning, teaching, and training so that we help you to be the best that you can be. From the moment you start with us and throughout your career we will help you to grow and develop. An extensive induction package is offered to successful candidates joining our Maternity services to ensure you are well supported and have time to adjust to working within our teams.
An inclusive and supportive culture - our Trust encourages staff to bring their whole selves to work and active Staff Networks to identify areas for improvement.
Employee Support and wellbeing - we have a comprehensive Employee Health & Wellbeing Programme which includes a counselling service and a range of activities.
Staff benefits - We have a range of staff benefits and schemes to support staff health, engagement, wellbeing and inclusion.

Samuel Johnson Community Hospital is currently does not provide intrapartum care but runs as a community midwifery hub.

We are currently focused on making progress in achieving compliance with the immediate and essential actions from Ockenden recommendations, as well as implementing valuable learning from recent external reviews and reports into the service.

Be fully compliant against all national safety measures.
