The Staff Psychology Service (SPS) supports Chelsea & Westminster NHS Trust to be trauma-informed, compassionate and psychologically-safe through supporting and promoting staff mental wellbeing across all levels of the organisation. We provide evidence-based psychological consultation, assessment, therapy and sign-posting to staff on a one-to-one basis. Our work with teams and staff groups includes facilitating Post Event Team Reflections (aka cold debriefs) following an extremely stressful incident PITSTOP Hot Debrief Training psychoeducational workshops and reflective spaces. Our work at the organisational level involves partnership working with key stakeholders organisational consultation and development support for managers and support for wider wellbeing initiatives (such as Schwartz Rounds) across the trust.

The SPS sits within the wider Clinical Health Psychology service that consists of Bariatric Surgery, Burns, HIV & Sexual Health, Intensive Care Unit, Irritable Bowel Disease and Pain within Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will work closely with the existing 8b Lead Psychologist to ensure the development, delivery and evaluation of a high quality, evidence based and effective staff psychological support service to support Chelsea & Westminster NHS Foundation Trust staff across both the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, West Middlesex Hospital and other community sites. They will work in conjunction with senior staff from the Clinical Health Psychology service and Chelsea & Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in order to determine strategy and agree an overall direction for service development. They will prioritise and deliver on agreed milestones within the Health and Wellbeing strategy and ensure the systematic provision of a high-quality specialist psychological support service to the staff of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

The SPS offers flexibility by delivering face to face and virtual options for service users. The postholder will be expected to work in person across both sites as required. A hospital shuttle bus connects these two sites. Hybrid working will be according to the service's needs.

Job responsibilities

They will be expected to prioritise and deliver on agreed milestones within the Health and Wellbeing strategy and ensure the systematic provision of a high-quality specialist psychological support service to the staff of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This will include:

  • scoping and mapping the needs of staff
  • providing interventions
  • supervising and supporting the psychological interventions provided by other psychologists and members of the team
  • working autonomously within professional guidelines
  • exercising responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the service
  • utilising research skills for audit, policy and service development, and research
  • proposing and implementing policy changes within the area served by the team/service.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential


  • Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology (or its equivalent) as accredited by the British Psychological Society, or British Psychological Society Statement of Equivalence
  • Registration with HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist

Desirable


  • Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
  • Post-doctoral training in working with teams, groups or organisations.
  • Training on supervision (including supervising Trainee Clinical Psychologists)

Experience

Essential


  • Experience of working as a highly specialist clinical psychologist.
  • Experience of providing consultation to MDT and/or non-psychology colleagues.
  • Experience in group work (including group supervision /reflective practice). Experience of supervising and line managing psychologists. Experience of providing teaching and training to psychologists and o
  • Experience of supervising and line managing psychologists.
  • Experience of providing teaching and training to psychologists and other professional groups.
  • Experience of working with, and addressing issues of, diversity including experience of working within a multicultural framework.
  • Experience of proposing and implementing service development project(s).
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment, with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.

Desirable


  • Experience of working within health care settings, including both hospital and community experience
  • Strategic leadership of a service and experience of working with multidisciplinary teams in physical health care settings.
  • Experience of staff recruitment and selection
  • Experience in the provision of trauma-informed cognitive behavioural therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), and/or compassionate based Approaches.
