Job Description

Working within Eurofins Food Testing laboratories in Wolverhampton, the purpose of this role is to to inspire and drive a culture of outstanding Quality to exceed the requirements of our customers and embrace our core organisational values.

Please note this is a full time role working Monday to Friday 10:00 to 18:00 with a rota of 1 in 3 weekends working (Sat & Sun).

Main duties to include:

  • To be part of the team responsible for the timely and accurate production of media required within the microbiology laboratory taking responsibility for the quality of the media..
  • Responsible for the continuous improvement of the business, to help deliver a safe, efficient and high quality operation from sample reception through to results generation.
  • To help create a welcoming working environment, where quality, efficiency and health and safety underpin the core values of the site, which delivers a sustainable staff experience and customer service.
  • Evaluate current business practices, identifying improvement opportunities to reduce costs, and maximise resources.
  • Supervision of staff in relevant sections of the laboratory to ensure efficient operation of the laboratory.
  • Knowledge of Laboratory Quality Manual in order to ensure compliance at all times with the policies, procedures and associated documents.
  • Recruitment of new staff and ensuring engaging and informative induction in place that gives new starter key skills and techniques to perform their role to a high standard.
  • Run team briefing meetings on a regular basis to keep team updated and briefed on key matters relating to the site, customer and the team.
  • Ensure that external proficiency scheme samples are tested and reported accurately, including timely investigations into unsatisfactory results.
  • Ensure that Internal Quality Control is maintained and acceptable.
  • Raise non-conforming work issues related to Quality and investigate using root cause analysis where assigned.
  • Participate in and facilitate external laboratory audits, e.g. UKAS, RSA.
  • Liaise with third-party suppliers on relevant areas e.g. equipment calibration.
  • Ensure that customer complaint investigations and client queries are investigated and resolved in a timely manner in conjunction with Laboratory Management and the Customer Services team.
  • Carry out internal test method audits, system audits and ensure audit programs are adhered to.
  • Ensure that corrective actions assigned during internal and external auditing are completed.
  • Escalation of issues affecting Quality performance to the Department management team/Local Quality Manager.
  • Ensure all media quality control checks are performed accurately and in a timely manner in line with the standard operation procedures.
  • Report and investigate any media quality control failures without delay
  • Support the production team to ensure that sufficient media is produced and provided to the laboratory for the required workload and to this purpose, liaise closely with main and pathogen laboratory technicians and team leaders. .
  • To be familiar with COSHH guidelines and working practices within the media and pathogen laboratory.
  • To ensure that all equipment is kept within recommended limits for calibration and maintenance in order to adhere to quality targets.
  • Ensure that all work is conducted in a clean and tidy manner with due attention to the careful maintenance of all laboratory fittings and equipment.
  • Ensuring that any relevant paperwork related to the quality control of media, EQA and IQC is kept up to date.
  • Assist with continuous improvement within the Microbiology department

Qualifications

  • Degree in chemistry /microbiology or related discipline and relevant experience of quality systems.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Food Microbiology / Chemistry laboratories accredited to ISO17025/RSA.
  • Experience of working in a UKAS accredited laboratory for a minimum of 2 years.
  • Good IT skills, Word, Excel & LIMS.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Good auditing skills.
  • ‘Can do’ attitude and be able to deliver change through people management skills.
