Redcliffe Hub works with young people and the wider community in Redcliffe to facilitate inspiring activities that enrich young lives, provides learning opportunities, and supports active participation in the local area . Our vision is for youth provision to be developed in line with the wants and needs of local young people.

In 2021, supported by St Mary Redcliffe Church, we opened a community hub which has been at the forefront of community activity in Redcliffe, a space for building connections and accessing support for local issues. During conversations with some of our groups it emerged Redcliffe has many aspirational families that are paying for additional tuition which many cannot afford.

We set up a tuition programme in 2021 to support families who were experiencing barriers to educating their children at home (e.g. EAL, poverty, overcrowded housing etc.) The popular programme had to close last year as our volunteer teacher left but we are restarting in January 2024 with a new tutor.

We will be providing additional tuition for children in Redcliffe from Year 3 to Year 6. They will be in small groups (6-8) studying English and Maths with sessions led by an experienced Tutor. Sessions run Tuesday 5-7pm, Wednesday 4-6pm and Friday 5-7pm.

Volunteers will be expected to support children with their different learning tasks, take instruction from the tutor and provide feedback at the end of the lesson. The perfect candidate would be calm and patient with excellent communication skills and an ability to build rapport with children.

We will provide travel expenses within Bristol and refreshments for our volunteers and the opportunity to be a huge part of our exciting and vibrant community.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Tutor in delivering activities that supplement children’s formal learning.
  • Engage local children in the activities that are taking place, making them fun and relevant to their lives.
  • Work with staff to provide emotional support and where appropriate signpost young people to other support services to meet their needs.
  • Work alongside children in the local area in a non-judgmental manner developing professional, positive relationships.
  • Support Tutor to evaluate activities and use information collected to plan future provision
  • Support risk assessment for activities and maintain best practice in health and safety
  • Represent Redcliffe Hub in a positive manner.
  • Commit to confidentiality by never passing on personal information unless there are safeguarding issues.
  • Safeguard the health and welfare of young people, following SMR Safeguarding Policy and Process at all times
