Infrastructure Specialist Location: City of London

Role purpose:

The Infrastructure Specialist role is to plan, design, develop, and launch efficient operational systems to support core organisational functions; this includes IT Projects, Continual Service Improvement, and BAU activities.

Role responsibilities:

Will apply proven communication, analytical and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve systems issues to maximise the benefit of the IT environments.
Will have the ability to assist in the strategic design and implementation of the core infrastructure to ensure its high availability as well as own and manage service improvement plans.
Will provide 3rd line IT support and act upon and resolve incidents escalated to the team in a timely manner.
Will strive to operate with minimal service outages and service distribution.
Will be required to work unsocial hours when requested and participate in the existing 'on-call' rota to support outside normal office hours.
Will be required to transfer and share their knowledge across other support teams.
Will act as technical lead for core infrastructure change requests.
Will participate in the disaster recovery procedure for all the business-critical systems and services
Assist in the planning, design, development, and deployment of new services and enhancements to existing services.
Ownership of systems used for monitoring, backups, disaster recovery and security patching.
Ensure compatibility and interoperability on computing systems.
Review and analyse the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and develop strategies for improving implementation decisions.
Conduct research on hardware and software products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts and service improvement activity.
Proactively assist in the design and implementation of long-term strategic goals and short-term tactical plans for managing and maintaining corporate systems and software.
Develop, document, communicate and enforce a policy and procedures for standardising systems and software as necessary.
Maintain availability of Production systems to agreed service levels.
Perform preventative maintenance checks and action when required.
Support for overnight data warehouse schedule.
Resolve issues escalated to the Infrastructure Operations team from the Service Desk and other support teams within agreed timescales.
Manage, build, support and maintain all server components within the environment.
Demonstrate ability to restore services during disaster recovery situations.
Work with internal and external project management teams on key IT projects.
Demonstrate ability to work under own initiative and take ownership of issues.
Champions the company values and works in accordance with the organisational behaviours.
To be aware of, and comply with, the relevant rules and regulations in relation to financial crime & conduct.

Technical requirements:

Excellent knowledge of Microsoft technologies including Windows Server, Active Directory and ideally SQL Server and/or Microsoft 365.
Excellent knowledge of VMware.
Working knowledge of cloud-based solutions such as AWS and Azure.
Previous experience working with a variety of technology stacks for compute, storage, virtualisation and network products ideally consisting of Cisco UCS, HP Nimble, Pure, and others
Working knowledge of DevOps principals and technologies such as Terraform and Ansible, and scripting languages such as Python, YAML and Powershell would be advantageous.
Desire to achieve a high standard of quality to all aspects of work output.
Meticulous attention to detail and a systematic logical approach to problem solving with a pragmatic approach when necessary.
Proven experience of backup/restore packages, advantageous to previously have used CommVault.
Demonstrates commitment to quality, service and problem management.
Demonstrable and highly developed problem-solving skills across multiple areas of infrastructure.

Skill and behavioural requirements:

Willing to participate in shift-based rota.
Must be a team player and take ownership of customer issues when required to.
Ability to produce documentation to a high standard and understand the importance of sharing knowledge with support teams at different levels.
Troubleshoot in a logical manner and will be pro-active in your approach, being able to spot potential problems, escalate and react as necessary.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Excellent time management and attention to detail is essential.
