The Trust comprises of four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton Hospital in Banbury.
Bereavement Services are looking to appoint a Bereavement Officer/ Medical Examiner Officer to work in the Bereavement Office based in the John Radcliffe Hospital. The role of the Medical Examiner Officer ( MEO) is to support the medical examiners in their role in scrutinising the circumstances and causes of death, and to be a point of contact for the Coroners office and Registration services. The MEO will also be a source of advice for relatives of deceased patients and healthcare professionals

Good interpersonal and telephone skills are essential as the job involves daily contact with anxious bereaved families, funeral directors, and the Coroners office.


The office is very busy, mentally taxing and sometimes emotionally demanding.


This is a role that may be of interest to persons with a diploma or degree in professional nursing studies. The successful applicant will be required to complete the Medical Examiner training and attain accreditation in the role
