Role Profile

The Bid Manager is accountable for managing a small team to deliver the bid process - from receipt of customer enquiry through to issuing quotes on-time to customers.

The Bid Manager must have strong customer relationship management skills, excellent organisational and communication skills and a strong background in project management and manufacturing engineering.

The Bid Manager reports to the Business Development Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end bid process â delivering bids on-time to customer commitment, including managing a small team
  • Manage virtual bid teams and inputs from key stakeholders, typically engaging with sales, engineering, quality, purchasing, finance, commercial and operations
  • Ensure timescales are achieved at each step of the bid process, including all internal governance, while taking the initiative in setting realistic deadlines
  • Work with the business development team to develop a clear win strategy for each bid and ensure win themes are clear and compelling
  • Prepare and review the bid, ensuring all products / services are included in the final price to the customer and ensuring that the bid represents the business’s most competitive offering
  • Monitor and report on KPIs related to the sales and bid processes
  • Provide bid and sales reports and presentations to senior management on a weekly and monthly basis
  • Ensure on-time submission of compliant and commercially sound bids
  • Co-ordinate and plan all client presentations and documentation required as part of the bid submission, including risk management plans, configuration management plans, technical proposals and commercial proposals
  • Work as an individual and within teams to drive continuous improvement, through post-bid reviews and business intelligence, both internally and with customers
  • Support with identifying new business opportunities including new markets, growth areas, trends, customers, partnerships, and products, to increase client base, generate revenue, improve profitability, and help the business grow
  • Think strategically - seeing the bigger picture and setting aims and objectives to develop and improve the business

Key Experiences & Characteristics

  • At least 3 years’ experience within a sales environment and 3 years within a manufacturing environment
  • Must demonstrate ability to forge strong, trusting relationships with key customer contacts
  • Must have commercial acumen, with a demonstrated ability to communicate the value proposition for bids to the customer
  • Must be well organised and be able to work on their own and as part of a team, as well as managing a small team
  • Must be an effective communicator, being able to communicate at all levels, internally and externally
  • Must be able to manage changing priorities and ambiguity whilst remaining calm, controlled and professional
  • Must be responsive and driven, with a strong desire to achieve personal success and a keen sense of competitiveness
  • Must be able to work under tight timescales and be results driven
  • Must have good communication and presentation skills
  • Must have a proven ability to negotiate
  • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to motivate ad develop a team

Qualifications and Experience Levels

  • Experience of working in a customer-facing sales-related role in the aerospace industry is essential, with a good understanding of the key OEMs and Tier-ones
  • Experience of product costing in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience of SAP would be preferred but not essential
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Powerpoint are required
  • Good understanding of basic aerospace engineering concepts and manufacturing processes
  • Familiarity with KPIs and performance metrics to measure and monitor progress in achieving objectives
  • Familiar with common aerospace approvals and the basic requirements of Quality Management Systems equivalent to the latest revision of ISO9001

Working hours

This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. Monday â Thursday from 8.15am to 5.00pm and Friday 8.15am to 12.45pm.
