This is an exciting opportunity to lead the Sports Department at Stoke College and to continue raising the profile, quality and participation in both Games and Core PE across the age range 11-18,including the teaching of academic PE at GCSE level.

Main responsibilities(see applicant pack for full details)

  • To lead the PE Curriculum and teach PE at Key stage 3 and 4, including teaching of GCSE PE (OCR Exam Board)
  • Plan and maintain an annual programme of major and minor sports for all year groups from year 7- year 13.
  • Manage the Sports Department budget, including working with the CFO to forecast annual requirements for any equipment needs
  • Oversee the deployment of sports coaches and teachers for the full PE and Sports programme including the running of co-curricular sporting activities
  • Oversee a full programme of House Sport, including the Annual Sports Day
  • Organise and host an annuallocal school’s cross-country event (Dickens Dash)
  • Working with the Head of Academics, plan, implement and review curriculum and schemes of work and assessment strategies across all key stages
  • Oversee a rolling programme of external sports trips and attend school outings and trips both in and outside of the department as required by Senior Management.
  • Develop and enhance external partnerships to further enhance the quality of Sports Coaching and provision across the College.
  • Review opportunities for using external sporting facilities to enhance the sports provision by working with local communities. Provide an annual plan to the CFO and Senior Leadership team.
  • Ensure coaches and teachers are developed through appropriate CPD
  • Organise and grow the College’s fixture list including fixtures pitched at the appropriate level.
  • Assist and run co-curricular clubs
  • Assist at Stoke College events including open mornings and assemblies
  • Provide pupil welfare/first aid as required (once trained)
  • Provide pastoral care and nurture the sporting potential of all students of all abilities.
  • Provide academic reports and regular student feedback and parent/carer communications.
  • Enable a positive learning culture where academic and extracurricular success are celebrated and appropriately rewarded (Stoke Successes and House points)
  • Liaise with the Facilities Manager and/or the Bursar to ensure proper ongoing maintenance and safety of PE equipment, in line with the school’s Health & Safety policy.
  • Conduct and maintain Risk Assessments for the Sports and PE department and all events the Sports department is responsible for.
  • Attend staff meetings and INSET days and work with other colleagues on particular areas of the curriculum relevant to your year groups to provide a whole-school approach.
  • This role could also include Form Tutor responsibilities and will include cover duty for absent colleagues as directed by the Deputy Head Pastoral
  • Undertake break and supervisory duties as designated by the co-curricular coordinator
  • To undertake all other reasonable duties as requested by the College

  • Support Admissions at Open Days, and other marketing opportunities.
  • To have professional regard for the ethos, policies and practices of Stoke College and maintain high standards in your own attendance and professional standards.
  • Be an excellent role model for compliance with policies and procedures relating to Child Protection and Safeguarding and attend Safeguarding training as required.
