Information Governance Manager

Your new company
You will be working for a large organisation who are within the public sector in Hertfordshire.
Your new role
- Develop and maintain the organisation's strategy on information and records governance and leading a programme of works related to information management and data governance.
- Review data sharing agreements and supplier clauses to ensure all council information is appropriately handled and processed.
- Review corporate services and supplier data protection impact assessments, using the Organisation's privacy platform.
- Provide quality assurance and oversight of all FOI/SAR responses, to ensure responses are accurate, responded in time, using the Organisation's corporate FOI case management portal.
- Direct line report to the Information Governance Officer, providing managerial supervision and support.
- Ensure the Organisation complies with current and future legislation, regulations, and codes of practice in all matters relating to Data Protection by translating new regulations into robust policy and carefully thought-out procedures.
- Act as the Organisation's lead for development of data protection and information governance related policy, procedures keeping the authority informed on changes in relevant legislation and advising the Organisation of the best approach to achieve them, whilst recognising the specific requirements and complexities of each service.
- Work with and lead, in a matrix-management structure, staff of all levels to provide specialist advice and training on all matters relating to Data Protection to ensure appropriate records management practices are implemented throughout the organisation.
- Develop and implement a change programme to instil best practice of data governance and management across the organisation and develop a strong culture of effective information governance, as necessary to sustain high standards of compliance.
- Produce quarterly IG service reports/updates to the Organisation's Senior Leadership Team, Corporate Risk and Corporate Governance groups, on the Organisation's activities with personal data at all times to prevent non-compliance and monitor the Organisation's compliance and timeliness performance with FOIs/SARs, in line with ICO requirements.
- Provide legal technical advice, guidance and training on all information governance and data privacy matters. Undertake specialist data protection and information and records governance work on a project-by-project basis, including managing budgets and staff assigned to projects where appropriate.
What you'll need to succeed
- Recognised qualification in Data Protection, such as the ISEB/ BCS Foundation/ Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection or equivalent.
- Recognised qualification in Freedom of Information/Environmental Information Regulations, such as the ISEB/ BCS Foundation/ Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection or equivalent.
- Recognised qualification in data governance /records management.
- Substantial practical working experience in data protection and information governance fields such as freedom of information and environmental information regulations with experience drafting and handling data protection impact assessments, sharing agreements and reviewing data protection clauses in customer and supplier contracts.
- Experience working in an expert or senior role within a local authority or large organisation at corporate level, working with senior officers and establishing positive networks with external Council partners in other agencies.
- Experience of developing, reviewing and implementing corporate policies.
- Strong understanding of the public sector information governance agenda.
- Experience running or supporting data cleansing projects to reduce information handling/ data risks and increase operational value of processed business/customer data.
What you'll get in return
A contract role lasting up to 12 months with the pay rate being up to £375 per day. The role is inside IR35, based in Hertfordshire and has hybrid work on offer.
