Position: Lead Electrical Engineer

Location: Kent (3 days in office)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Electrical Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the entire project lifecycle, from initial engineering and design through procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover to the client. As a specialist in HV substations, the Lead Electrical Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful execution and delivery of our EPC projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the electrical engineering team in the design and development of HV substation projects.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including civil and structural, to ensure integrated project delivery.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, conceptual designs, and technical evaluations for proposed projects.
  • Prepare detailed engineering specifications, drawings, and calculations, adhering to relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Oversee the procurement process, including supplier qualification, equipment selection, and negotiation of contracts.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, supporting their professional development.
  • Manage project schedules, resources, and budgets, ensuring adherence to project milestones and financial targets.
  • Coordinate construction activities, conducting site visits, and overseeing contractor performance.
  • Lead commissioning activities, including testing, inspection, and troubleshooting of electrical systems.
  • Ensure project documentation, including as-built drawings and operation manuals, is complete and accurate.
  • Collaborate with clients and stakeholders to address technical queries, provide progress updates, and ensure client satisfaction.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulations relevant to HV substation projects.
  • Utilize software tools such as Primavera 6 and other associated software for project planning, scheduling, and control.
  • Manage, produce, and coordinate grid connection documentation with DNO/TSO

Qualifications and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Extensive experience (minimum 8-10 years) in the Electrical Transmission & Distribution sector, with a focus on HV substations.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering complex EPC projects, preferably within the data center or renewables sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, standards, and codes related to HV substations, such as IEC, IEEE, and NEC.
  • Proficient in using software tools such as Primavera 6 for project planning, scheduling, and control.
  • Sound understanding of construction processes, including procurement, installation, and commissioning.
  • Familiarity with power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, and protection coordination.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with attention to detail.
  • Chartered Engineer or equivalent certification is desirable.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
  • Proficiency with System studies software like ETAP or similar is desirable.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk tools is preferred.
  • Grid connections Experiences are a plus.
