Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner Apprentice -Children and Young People's Mental Health (CYP)

Lancashire and South Cumbria Foundation Trust are able to offer a fantastic opportunity for staff to undertake the MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice through the apprenticeship route.

The aim of the Msc programme is to prepare trainees to develop contemporary practice and independent clinical decision making at an advanced level. Trainees will be supported to develop their capacity for critical analysis and transference of knowledge to practice.

We are wanting to expand the ACP role within CYPMH. This is an opportunity within the specialist network in Children and young people's mental health service (CYPMHs) to join the Access Hub- based in Central Lancashire.

Main duties of the job

The opportunity to undertake the MSc commencing in September 2024 is open to Nurses who have extensive experience of working in Mental Health, preferably with some Children and young people's mental health experience.

In order to apply for the apprenticeship, candidates must meet the below criteria:

  • Currently be working at band 7 or band 6, have at least three years post registration clinical experience in practice at this level or proof of equivalent experience in practice
  • A minimum of 2:2 class First Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject from an approved institution of higher education
  • Have a current professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Be able to provide relevant references
  • Maths and English GCSEs at Grade C/4+ or equivalent such as Level 2 functional skills in Maths and English

Original copies of all qualifications must be provided to be enrolled onto the course.

What support can students expect during training?

The programme is taught by lecturers and expert clinical practitioners in their field who will offer dedicated academic support and guidance and students will be allocated a named personal tutor. Students will also be supported in the workplace be designated practice mentors and facilitators. You will be supported through dedicated time to attend university and gain skills in the practice settings.

Interviews will take place in collaboration with the University Team.

The training provider will require evidence of:

  • Remaining length of visa which covers the duration of the course
  • Minimum 3 years residing in the UK (pre-enrolment onto apprenticeship)

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will:

  • Exercise advanced clinical expertise, levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in the delivery of clinical care. Provide advanced clinical skills in relation to assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of the service user group within the access hub.
  • Promote supportive care programmes and set high standards for the delivery of care to patients and their families and be responsible for delivering high quality services.
  • Work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team within the access hub providing Children and Young Peoples Mental Health Services.
  • Contribute to the medical prescribing provision within the team through supportive dedicated Non-Medical prescribing (dependent of profession).
  • Work collaboratively as part of the multidisciplinary Children and Young Peoples access hub mental health team developing shared goals, complementing the roles of others to support and maintain team growth and continuous improvement.
  • Undertake and complete an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice.

Essential


  • A minimum of 2:2 class Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject from an approved institution of higher education

  • Experience of risk assessment and management and its application practice.
