Commercial Manager - Erection and Commissioning

We are recruiting an enthusiastic, detail conscious Commercial Manager to join a high performing Finance and Commercial team, ready to support Siemens Energy in a period of growth. As the Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for providing Financial, Commercial, and Strategic analysis and advice. Your role will be broad as we look to enhance and control the projects in delivery, influencing and challenging the site teams, as well as feeding information and helping to improve future bids through the use of actual data and lesson's learned.

A Snapshot of Your Day

In this position, you will also act as a trusted advisor to Senior Management and serve as a subject matter expert in all aspects of commercial controlling. Your responsibilities will include providing financial leadership, with the ability to influence the bid support function and ensure the quality and accuracy of bid and Erection and Commissioning projects. Furthermore, your expertise in internal commercial insights and awareness of trends will be crucial for initiating, developing, and implementing strategic improvement projects that align with the business objectives.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Managing the commercial review of Erection and Commissioning projects.
  • Managing a growing team of cost controllers as well as responsibility for their future development and further team selections.
  • Influence and implement the commercial strategy, identifying and quantifying financial risks with technical support.
  • Ensuring appropriate commercial and contractual management of subcontract packages
  • Provide feedback and participate in the review of company norms based upon commercial data from projects.
  • Facilitating the finance briefing of internal governance as part of bid preparation and sign off.
  • Develop scenario and sensitivity modelling (Best/Likely/Worst scenarios).
  • Using strong communications skills identify, understand, and challenge the risks, assumptions, drivers and interdependencies.
  • Analyze risk and opportunity registers as part of the bid process to ensure that appropriate consideration has been given based upon the input data received during cost estimation.
  • Support, influence and make recommendations in project related meetings, including attendance on calls and in person meetings where appropriate.
  • Produce management reports on the performance of the portfolio to aid effective decision making by the management team.
  • Feed into the reporting and forecasting team
  • Assisting in effective claims and contractual management strategy.
  • Maintain internal and external relationships, collaborating operationally and technically to deliver business results.
  • Having a dispersed team across multiple locations, regular travel will be required, as deemed necessary to achieve business objectives (typically 40%).

  • Commercial processes and systems - You anticipate and recognise obstacles in work processes between teams and make suggestions for ongoing productivity improvements. You facilitate collaboration and improvements between teams.
  • Commercial analysis and insights - You coach others and develop your understanding of changes to economic and financial principles and practices. You do this through relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, and you make sure that you apply these principles and practices completely and accurately.
  • Commercial thinker - You develop and implement ideas, using internal commercial insight and the latest external thinking, producing practical and implementable ideas.
  • Use data analytics - You identify opportunities to use data analytics to make better decisions. You deliver process, systems or tool changes to improve our data analytics capability.
  • Clear communicator - You can communicate with internal and external stakeholders, assimilate knowledge, then provide executive summaries for senior management.

What You Bring

  • Experience in various forms of contract, typically NEC, FIDIC.
  • Experience within a Finance and Commercial/Project Function within a complex business
  • Fully conversant in understanding of each function and how Commercial can add value.
  • Experience of subcontracting and Commercial management
  • High IT Literacy with a digitalisation mindset
  • Having a QS qualification or background in QS activities is advantageous.
  • Good communication & interpersonal skills. Able to communicate both with peers and Senior Management
  • Experience of working as part of a large Project Delivery Team.
