Our BNM Recycling Business Unit currently has a need for an Environmental Compliance Manager. The role will be based from Bord na Mona Recycling Newbridge and will report to the Head of Operations.
The successful candidate will; proactively identify situations that may pose a compliance risk to the Resource Recovery business, and guide the Compliance Team in the development, reviewing, and implementation of suitable policies, procedures, and business practices.
Lead, participate, and collaborate in the review and analysis of new regulatory developments in the area of waste management and recycling, and maintain an oversight of potential and impending developments impacting business activities.

The Role: The main duties and responsibilities of the role will include the following:
- Ensure all controls are adequate, being tested, and monitored on an ongoing basis in order to ensure that the Resource Recovery business is fully compliant with all statutory and regulatory approvals, permissions and licenses.
- Participate and collaborate in business development projects and initiatives across the Resource Recovery business, including helping identify opportunities, providing compliance reviews and risk assessments, as well as defining requirements to ensure compliance for such projects and initiatives. Where required, liaise with the relevant regulatory agency regarding such policies and initiatives, and clearly advocate the environmental benefits of same. Ensure the Compliance Team works closely with Operations and other key functions to ensure proper implementation of procedures across such new developments.
- Lead, participate, and collaborate in the review and analysis of new SOPs, enhancement of existing SOPs, and ensure the Compliance Team works closely Operations in the roll-out and implementation of same.
- Develop, prepare, and implement key environmental compliance metrics and reports, and share with the Senior Management Team and Operations on a weekly/monthly basis as required. Where metric targets are not achieved; work with the Compliance Team and Operations to develop and implement timely corrective actions.
- Work with the Compliance Team and Operations to ensure that all reporting requirements in respect of site licenses and permits (i.e. local authority, EPA, etc.), waste collection permit (i.e. NCWPO), and quality/ accreditation bodies (i.e. NSAI) are provided accurately and on-time. Ensure any other appropriate Stakeholder report or query is addressed accurately and on-time, without contravening customer confidentiality requirements or GDPR regulations.
- As a key member of the Senior Management team, proactively use the Performance Management process as a means to support resource planning within your team and the wider organisation. Identify training needs and provide training to colleagues and the Compliance Team where required.
- Work with IT, Operations, and the Compliance Team to ensure that all environmental compliance data (i.e. policies, training records, audits, checks, toolbox talks, reporting, etc.) are stored in a clear and concise format, and readily accessible at all times.
- Keep abreast of and gain a full understanding of governance process for national and EU policy, legislation and regulation impacting the waste management and recycling sector. Stay connected to policy intelligence and advocate the Company’s position as appropriate through all possible means (industry associations, media, conferences, contacts, etc.). Brief the Senior Management team in a timely manner regarding any potential or impending developments.
- Work in partnership with other Resource Recovery and Group functions to offer support and assistance in compliance-related matters ensuring am open, adequate, and effective risk management structure with thorough solutions.
- Good communication and people management skills. Comfortable at representing the Company in industry, policy review, and other relevant external group settings.
The Person: The ideal candidate will possess the following qualification, skills, knowledge, and attributes.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in highly regulated environmental compliance role(s).
- Relevant Degree in related discipline.
- Good IT proficiency with strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel and PowerPoint.
- Eligibility to work in Ireland is required with good written and Verbal English essential.
