Job Description

Mortgage Underwriter (1st/2nd charge OR BTL mortgages)

Location: Watford

Salary: £45k

The Mortgage Underwriter is responsible for evaluating and verifying loan applications to determine the risk involved and the eligibility for loan approval.

Key Responsibilities:

- Review and analyse residential mortgage loan applications to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

- Assess the creditworthiness of applicants by evaluating credit reports, income documentation, employment history, and other financial documents.

- Perform detailed risk analysis and determine the level of risk associated with loan applications.

- Approve or deny loan applications based on thorough analysis and sound judgment.

- Recommend alternative loan structures for applications that do not meet standard criteria.

- Verify accuracy and completeness of loan documentation submitted by applicants.

- Ensure all required documentation is collected and validated for each loan file.

- Communicate with loan officers, processors, and other stakeholders to resolve issues and obtain necessary information.

- Maintain a thorough understanding of company underwriting guidelines and policies.

- Maintain detailed records of underwriting decisions and documentation for audit purposes.

- Prepare regular reports on loan approval/denial statistics and trends for senior management.

- Provide exceptional customer service by responding to inquiries and providing clear explanations of underwriting decisions.

- Collaborate with loan officers to provide guidance on complex loan scenarios.

Experience:

- Minimum of 1 years of experience in mortgage underwriting or a related field.
