Director of English wanted for September

Are you an experience middle leader or strong practitioner looking to take the next step in your career? If so, we have an exciting opportunity that may be of interest.

Searchworks are looking for a Director of English to work at a mainstream secondary school in the London Borough of Redbridge.

As Director of English, you will oversee and lead a large, dynamic and high achieving department committed to providing great academic standards and a passion for English language and Literature Department results being again in the top 10% of Schools nationally

Location: Redbridge (Outer London)

Type: Full-Time and Permanent

Salary: MPS/UPS +TLR 1C

Latest Ofsted Report: Good With Outstanding Features

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Head of English to develop and implement innovative curriculum strategies.
  • Provide guidance and support to English teachers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Lead departmental meetings and initiatives to promote excellence in teaching and learning.
  • Assist in the recruitment, training, and appraisal of English department staff.
  • Contribute to the development of school-wide literacy initiatives and interventions.

Requirements:

  • Qualified teacher status (QTS) with experience teaching English at secondary level.
  • Leadership abilities and a track record of successful team management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate staff and students alike.
  • A deep understanding of curriculum development and assessment practices.
  • A commitment to promoting an inclusivity within the school community.
