DUTIES:
  1. Reporting to the Manager of Employee Relations, this position provides administrative support related to:
  2. Labour relations, job evaluation, organizational reviews, lay-off and bumping, seniority, and salary administration.
  3. Ensuring accurate union time off, completing billings as required, and attending grievance hearings and other meetings.
  4. Preparing management briefs and/or minutes for hearings/meetings, researching relevant topics, and preparing reports/correspondence.
  5. Maintaining and formatting statistical information into reports for negotiations, job evaluation, etc.
  6. Answering internal/external inquiries, liaising with Union officials, maintaining related materials, and fostering amiable relations.
  7. Liaising with Legal Council for arbitration/mediation hearings, providing testimony, and interacting with various management levels.
  8. Issuing lay-off notices, placing unionized staff in accordance with seniority rights, and following up on contentious issues.
  9. Calculating seniority as per agreements and performing Occupational Health & Safety duties.
  10. Performing other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. University Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Political or Social Science, or equivalent.
  2. Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a Human Resources environment.
  3. Must have the ability to travel to off-site locations and possess a valid Driver’s License if travel is by vehicle.
  4. Operating knowledge and training in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  5. Experience in a unionized environment, understanding of grievance/arbitration processes, and ability to organize and communicate effectively.
  6. Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
  7. Ability to work with a high level of initiative while observing confidentiality.
  8. Physical demands analysis indicates a light level of work.
