Purpose of the role:


Reporting to the import customs manager, the import customs supervisor’s role is to ensure the daily operations of the import customs team are conducted in an efficient and effective manner whilst adhering to company and external authority customs requirements and legislation.

With a primary focus on clearances for road movements, the supervisor is also charged with ensuring a quality service is provided to all, including customers of deep sea movements, using a variety of import clearance methods.

A key purpose of the role is to ensure the effective integration of new team members and to optimise the performance of individuals through review and refinement of processes.


Key Responsibilities:


· Proactively supervise the import customs team effectively in a dynamic and challenging environment

· Effectively manage the day to day operations of the import department in the absence of the Import Customs Manager

· Responding to requests for customs service’s providing effective and efficient solutions to facilitate adherence to operational and service deadlines

· Continually reviewing processes to strive for efficiencies without compromising the service level and/ or quality of work administered

· To give the team of import declarants focus and allocate daily tasks where necessary

· Accountable for the general day to day management of the declarations assigned to the team

· To produce, analyse and manage identified Key Performance Indicators for the customs activities and ensure that targets are met

· Responsible for ensuring the team meet their objectives

· Supporting the department to resolve day to day issues and queries

· Liaising with import supervisors from other shifts to ensure a frictionless handover and effective completion of the overall workload

· Ensuring compliance of standard operating procedures for Customs and AEO processes

· Collaboration with internal customers to maximise synergies and promote cross team and branch interactions and communications.


Experience & Skills:


· Minimum of 2 years’ experience in supervisor / team leader role

· Good awareness of global geography

· Familiar in busy & high pressure environment

· Great problem solving skills

· Ability to motivate & influence others

· Strong customer service skills

· 2 years’ experience in customs related role (desirable)

· Awareness of customs regulations (desirable)

· Working knowledge of UK CHIEF systems & proprietary software systems (desirable)
