We are seeking an seasoned Transport Manager to join an expert marine and logistics business based in Southampton. Working within the logistics division, you will be responsible for the daily operations and compliance planning for a fleet of 25 vehicles, ensuring a consistent high-quality service.


Established in 1894, our operation has evolved from a small family-run shipping business to being one of the most renowned marine and logistic experts companies on the Southcoast, with circa. 150 employees working across 5 different sites. The logistics division specialises in the transportation of abnormal, out-of-gauge & heavy loads across the UK and Europe. We work for a broad range of customers in industries including shipping, marine, energy, oil & gas and construction.


Responsibilities

  • Provide strong leadership and management to the transport team & drivers.
  • Oversee the coordination and management of all transport activities, ensuring timely deliveries and effective route planning.
  • Negotiate contracts and build on strong relationships to ensure reliable and high-quality transport services.
  • Producing weekly reports on utilisation and revenue with a strong ability to drive the division forward.
  • Manage the maintenance of the fleet of 25 trucks and 45 trailers, optimising cost efficiencies
  • Stay informed of industry regulations, transportation laws, and environmental standards, ensuring full compliance and adherence within the transportation operations.
  • Support the company in making further headway in implementing additional green technologies and reduction in carbon footprint. You will oversee sustainable transport practices, aiming to reduce the environmental impact of the company’s transport operations.


Person Specification

  • Demonstrable experience in Transport Management and planning
  • Proven track record of planning a fleet of vehicles, enabling oversight of the planning team.
  • Able to demonstrate understanding of legal requirements in relation to drivers' and WTD
  • Strong management experience, seeking an influencing leadership role
  • Technical knowledge and understanding of haulage and logistics
  • Clear communicator – able to liaise with a multifaced workforce and clientele.
  • Process driven, able to recognise areas of improvement and implement changes to support ongoing development

  • Understanding of freight-forwarding and or shipping, would be advantageous
  • Experience/knowledge of abnormal loads, advantageous


Further Information

  • Working Hours: 08:30-17:30, Monday to Friday.
  • Onsite role, 5 days a week in Southampton HQ.
  • Support troubleshooting for 24/7 on-call team.
