Manpower are currently seeking an interim Physical Validation Scientist, to work with our global FMCG client Unilever, renowned for brands such as Dove, Sure, Persil, and Simple, and become an integral part of their fast-paced FMCG environment.


The position is based at our client’s scientific Research & Development facility in Port Sunlight Village, Wirral easily accessible by train and car. This is a full-time temporary role to run for 6 months requiring 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Compensation for this role is competitive, paying up to £29,719 per annum, pro rata, depending upon experience.


We are looking for someone that shares our passion for innovation, applied material science and the environment, and the drive to take our packaging portfolio to the next level. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary project team ethos where everybody contributes to achieving the same goal.


Key Accountabilities

We are seeking a qualified Scientist/Engineer who can perform a variety of technical laboratory procedures. In this role, you will:

  • Follow standard procedures for testing and make detailed observations during experiments.
  • Analyse samples using sensitive equipment, such as tensile testing instrument, Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), 3D scanner, 3D printer, Rheometer, Water Vapor Permeation Analyzer. (full training will be provided)
  • Manipulate/analyse data and write technical reports.
  • Work with various packaging materials and formulations.
  • Provide administrative support as required.


Key Skills Required

  • A background in Material/Polymer Sciences, Chemistry, Engineering, or a closely related discipline with relevant expertise in applied material science.
  • Experience in materials characterisation.
  • Be able to work in the lab in an efficient manner and maintain a safe and tidy working environment.
  • Be able to work both independently and as part of a wider team, to support and execute work plans against key programme deliverables and milestones.
  • Experience of working in industrial innovation projects is desirable but not essential.
  • Proactive problem solver with strong analytical skills and an ability to manipulate, process, visualise and interpret data to pull out key insights.
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary projects and teams.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills (written and verbal English).
  • Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and methodical.
