Transport Team Lead

My client is seeking an experienced Transport Team Leader to join their team on a permanent basis.
Role
You will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of a small team, ensuring high levels of compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day activities of the team to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
- Monitor and ensure all team activities comply with company policies, legal standards, and industry regulations.
- Act as a point of escalation for operational issues and resolve them promptly.
- Create, manage, and adjust drivers’ schedules to optimize route efficiency and meet operational needs.
- Plan routes to ensure timely deliveries and minimize downtime or delays.
- Account for driver holidays, absences, and emergency cover by liaising with agencies or internal teams
- Maintain accurate control over agency driver usage, including recording hours and assignments.
- Ensure legal compliance with driving hours, rest breaks, and safety standards.
- Coordinate with agencies to secure drivers when necessary, ensuring proper vetting and documentation
- Perform regular checks to ensure processes align with legal requirements (e.g., tachograph laws, vehicle maintenance records).
- Conduct audits or reviews to maintain compliance with transportation regulations and internal standards.
- Stay updated on relevant legislative changes affecting transportation and logistics.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of schedules, agency usage, and compliance checks.
- Generate reports for management to track efficiency, compliance, and operational performance
- Provide guidance and support to drivers and team members, fostering a collaborative and compliant working environment.
- Address concerns or queries from team members to ensure their needs align with operational priorities.
- Key Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong organizational and planning skills, with attention to detail.
- Knowledge of transportation regulations and legal compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in route planning software or scheduling tools.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills to manage a team effectively.
- Ability to adapt to dynamic operational demands while maintaining accuracy in processes.
