The service you will work in….

The service you will work in is one of the four high support accommodation in the Wandsworth Mental Health Recovery & Rehabilitation service of Hestia. The property is a 8 room male service users only project called the Foulser Road project. You will become a member of the vibrant team of staff providing recover focused support intervention for service users through their uniques and person centered recovery pathways.

You will also be involved in liaising with multiagency/professionals providing support intervention to our residents to enhance their recovery and ultimately step down to low support and with time integrated into the community living independently on their own.

A day in this role looks like intriguing, educative and insightful.

As a Recovery Worker at Hestia, you will play a crucial role in our Mental Health and Complex Needs Service. Your contributions will directly influence the lives of our service users, guiding them towards a path of empowerment and independence.

A day will never look the same and some of the things you can expect to do/be responsible for are: Carrying out welfare checks, Prompt with their medication, support in filling out form, contacting benefits office/other agencies with them or on their behalf, facilitating ADLs activities and social skills enhancing activities in the house through Co-production while sign posting/referring them to such relevant services providing similar and other recovery enhancing activities in the community.

  • To clearly articulate the aims and objectives, pathway and service model to people using the service so they can fully participate in and co-produce their support
  • Empower service users to engage effectively in their liaisons with professionals within the community such as community mental health teams, social work teams, housing providers, health professionals, Job Centre Plus etc.
  • Work flexibly as part of a team to ensure service coverage and that contractual obligations are met.
  • Develop co-produced group activities, peer support networks and other community-based approaches to empowering service users to achieve their goals and aspirations and to encourage service users to access these opportunities.
  • Actively monitor the health, wellbeing, safety and security of the service and its users ensuring all concerns are followed up promptly and in line with procedures.
  • Participate in the core work of the service, providing support to colleagues, carrying out tasks allocated by the service manager and using initiative to identify and deal with additional tasks as they arise.
  • Ensure that administration is done in good time; that detailed, concise and accurate records are created contemporaneously and that confidentiality is appropriately maintained.
  • Assist the manager to manage health and safety, repairs and maintenance of the premises.
  • To collect rents and service charges, and manage arrears proactively by following policy, protocol and procedure to support residents to maintain their tenancy and develop independent living skills by paying service charges & rent.
  • Provide support the Team Manager and Senior Recovery Worker to manage voids across the service.
  • Ensure referrals, assessments and service reviews are effective and timely.
  • Empower service users to develop independent living skills as part of a planned move on process

  • Demonstrable experience of working with individuals who have experienced mental health and/or dual diagnosis issues.
  • Knowledge of issues affecting those individuals with a range of mental health conditions including crisis management, how to communicate effectively with these individuals and how to support them with dignity and respect.
  • Knowledge of relevant Mental Health legislation i.e. Care Program Approach (CPA) processes.
  • Understanding of the principles of recovery as an ethos and a range of recovery approaches.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, on own initiative and to oversee induction of new peer staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to work with statutory services i.e. NHS at the front line
  • Awareness of health and safety issues.
  • Ability to work Monday to Sunday 9.00am - 5.00pm including working bank holidays.
  • Good IT skills that including a working knowledge of functions in MS Word, Outlook and the internet.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills, able to produce clear written correspondence in hard copy or email.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding issues and ability to address them appropriately.
