Offshore Instrumentation Technician

Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Offshore Instrumentation Technician to join our team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and optimizing our offshore instrumentation systems to ensure the safety and efficiency of our operations. You will work closely with the Shift Supervisor and the Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Team Leader to execute maintenance activities, troubleshoot issues, and ensure all systems are operating to the highest standards.


Key Responsibilities:

Instrumentation Maintenance:

  • Perform routine and reactive maintenance, repairs, and replacements of offshore instrumentation systems.
  • Ensure all equipment meets safety and performance standards, in line with work programs, maintenance planning, and company procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Shift Supervisor and E&I Team Leader to identify areas for improvement and recommend cost-effective solutions to enhance equipment reliability and lifespan.

Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution:

  • Execute first-line maintenance and urgent repairs, diagnosing issues and working with technical experts to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Conduct root cause analysis on instrumentation failures, providing detailed reports and recommendations to prevent future incidents.

Inspections and Calibration:

  • Carry out planned inspections and calibrations of instrumentation equipment, ensuring compliance with HSEQ standards and operational procedures.
  • Report any performance anomalies to relevant stakeholders and support vendor-led instrument and metering audits.

Work Planning and Prioritization:

  • Prioritize and plan maintenance tasks within your area of expertise, ensuring alignment with the offshore operational schedule.
  • Advise offshore management on opportunities to improve efficiency and optimize resource use during scheduled downtimes.

Stock and Materials Management:

  • Identify and requisition necessary replacement parts and materials, ensuring safe and efficient handling and usage in compliance with HSEQ guidelines.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, system modifications, and other relevant information within the Maintenance Management System (MMS).
  • Ensure clear communication and handover of information between shifts to maintain continuity of operations.

Contractor Supervision:

  • Supervise and evaluate the work of contract personnel, ensuring that all activities meet the company’s quality, safety, and industry standards.

Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ):

  • Adhere to all HSEQ procedures, contributing to a safe and healthy working environment for all personnel.
  • Actively participate in safety briefings, emergency response drills, and initiatives to promote an Incident-Free Workplace culture.


Qualifications and Skills:

Education:

  • A minimum of a BTECH or ONC in an engineering discipline, preferably in Instrumentation or Electrical Engineering.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience working with instrumentation systems in the offshore oil and gas industry, with a strong background in the Exploration & Production (E&P) sector.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in safety and environmental policies, planned and unplanned maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex instrumentation systems.
  • Familiarity with mathematical calculations and conversions used in the calibration and testing of devices.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Certifications:

  • Must hold current and valid Offshore Survival, Offshore Medical, and Minimum Industry Safety Training (MIST) certifications.

Non-Technical Competencies:

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to share knowledge clearly and influence decision-makers on complex topics.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with external partners.
  • Strong leadership and networking abilities, with a focus on continuous learning and development.
