Cheltenham, United Kingdom ALS Mechatronic Full time

Location: based at our offices between Cheltenham and Tewkesbury + regular visits to our Alcester site

ALS Mechatronic is trusted globally by start-ups through to multinational powerhouses – ranging from dairies to pharmaceutical companies to help improve their efficiency and production capabilities with our state of the art, bespoke manufacturing machinery, and control systems. We typically automate end-of-line, repeatable labour-intensive processes at speed, by designing and building novel machinery, integrating robotics and vision inspection.

We are located in a 20,000 square foot factory just outside Winchcombe in North Gloucestershire, employing ~40 people. We also have an 18,000 sq. ft facility in Alcester near Redditch to enable full automation line assembly for QA and testing ahead of shipping.

In this role, you will be bringing our customers’ automation aspirations to life, working across a variety of industry sectors (predominantly in food and beverage and plastic container handling) and working on some truly ground-breaking projects.

Testament to our global success is our prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise for International Trade, an honour awarded to us in 2021.

We’re now looking to appoint an experienced Project Manager. This is a new role, integral to our ongoing success given our projected growth, and the sheer number of increasingly complex projects we are winning. Reporting to the Managing Director, you will be crucial in helping to plan, monitor and deliver on time, on budget, multi-million-pound special purpose machinery projects and large-scale manufacturing automation lines.

Working as part of a closely-knit team, you will be predominantly based in-house but should expect occasional travel to our customers’ sites – mainly around the UK but also North America.

What’s really important is the energy and attitude you bring to the role. We’re busy and growing rapidly so this is an exciting time to join us and work with a great bunch of people

Responsibilities include:

  • Taking responsibility for larger (£500K +) projects within the business, typically managing 2 or 3 projects at any one time.
  • Generate timing plans from the project quote, then working with each department to schedule the project in, highlighting any risks to the overall project plan
  • Budget management
  • Recording, monitoring, and improving on project KPIs
  • Keeping your finger on the pulse across a diverse project portfolio – reporting progress and chasing key stakeholders
  • Ownership of the many Bill of Materials ensuring material and components arrive following ‘Just in Time’ methodology
  • Facilitate regular project meetings ensuring efficient handovers between key project milestones
  • Resource management and monitoring projects in relation to each other to avoid bottle necks
  • Managing and maintaining lessons learned with relevant actions, to ensure continuous improvement throughout the project lifecycle and hosting project wrap up meetings
  • Project reporting, ensuring Project Sponsors stay updated with progress/risk
  • Being a key customer point of contact and gate-keeping access to the engineers
  • Capturing project deviation and managing change control and project/resource impact

To be considered for the role, you will:

  • Have a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a project manager ideally in an engineering environment
  • Be proficient in project management software such as Microsoft Project
  • Have sound experience of managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Be proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
  • Be experienced in budget management
  • Have a good understanding of setting, recording and reporting of KPI’s
  • Be experienced in Resource Management
  • Have strong procurement and negotiation skills
  • Be familiar with SAP (Not essential)
  • Have experience with JIT and Continuous Improvement
  • Be an excellent communicator

You will also:

  • Have a great attitude - divas need not apply
  • Be commercially aware
  • Have great people skills
  • Be comfortable presenting back to the board and other members of the senior leadership team
  • Be organised, tidy and work safely
  • Have a good eye for detail
  • Self-starter with an inquisitive mind
  • Able to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • Be a great problem solver and be tenacious
  • Be fluent in English (second language is a plus)
  • Presentable and articulate
  • Be eligible to work and live in the UK

If this sounds like you, then here’s what’s on offer:

  • A competitive salary, depending on experience - salary banding will be advised on application
  • Opportunity to earn spot bonuses/awards for outstanding contributions
  • Contributory Pension Scheme (after probationary period)
  • 21 days holiday per annum plus statutory holidays
  • Additional holiday for long service
  • Private Health Insurance for you, your partner and children (after probationary period)
  • Cycle to work scheme (after probationary period)
  • Great colleagues

Normal Hours: Monday-Thursday 08.00 to 17.00, Friday 08.00 to 14.00
