At Xtrac, we design and develop transmission systems for a diverse range of customers and these products are increasingly complex, made up of mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic sub-systems. As a Senior Simulation Engineer you will simulate the behaviour of these transmission systems to guide the design process, enable us to predict their performance, and to assist in the development of the control systems that will operate them.

Using your experience, you will ensure that the simulation methods and tools that we use are appropriate for the projects and products that we undertake, and allow us to input information into the design and development process at the right stages. You will continuously review these methods, recommending and implementing improvements when required.

You will work closely with the design teams to understand our products and the targets for our new designs, ensuring that the resolution of our simulations is fit for purpose and that they generate the outputs required. You will also define, implement and refine simulation methods that allow models to be used throughout the development process into HIL testing environments.

Working as part of the wider Advanced Engineering group, you will co-ordinate with Analysis Engineers, the Controls and Electronics team, R&D and the Design teams to gain the information that you need and to input information into a broad range of engineering workflows.

We are looking for someone that enjoys being part of a fast-paced, engaging environment and working with a passionate and driven team. You will have initiative, enthusiasm, a flexible approach, and the ability to work to deadlines when required and qualified to degree-level in mechanical engineering, physics, applied mathematics or other relevant discipline.

You will also have:

  • Experience of leading multi-domain simulation activities of complex systems within a relevant industry environment (e.g. automotive, aerospace).
  • Experience of the creation of plant models for use in HIL environments would be advantageous.
  • Ideally you will have experience of implementing new or expanding existing simulation processes and techniques within an organisation.
  • The skill and knowledge to create standards and work instructions for typical simulation processes and tasks.
  • Good communication skills and have demonstrated the ability to manage changing workload.

Post graduate qualification in a relevant discipline would be an advantage but not essential as would some experience of line management of other Engineers.
