Principal Accountabilities

  • Deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality, safety, and environmental management.
  • Ensure construction quality through audits, verifying technical competencies, adherence to specifications, and compliance with safety and environmental procedures.
  • Develop site delivery plans and ensure the availability of resources, materials, and services to maintain project schedules.
  • Manage contractors and civil operatives on-site to meet contractual obligations and implement cost controls.
  • Provide monthly achievement reports and forecasts.
  • Ensure all project workers are fully aware of safety and environmental requirements.


Main Duties

  • Coordinate daily construction and maintenance activities with clients and contractors to meet schedules.
  • Obtain supplier quotations and coordinate purchase order requests with the Business Support team.
  • Manage change by ensuring early warning notices and change requests are communicated to the Lead Field Civil Engineer and Project Manager.
  • Provide technical support and serve as a reference point for the construction team.
  • Identify potential project risks and opportunities, raising awareness within the team and company.
  • Manage teams of employees and contractors during engineering activities to ensure successful delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety procedures, such as Putting People to Work and Distribution Safety Rules.
  • Oversee projects from initiation to completion.
  • Assign and supervise tasks to ensure compliance, safety, and timely delivery.
  • Verify that teams possess the necessary skills for their assigned tasks.
  • Conduct pre-work briefings with teams.
  • Provide toolbox talks and collect signed acknowledgment sheets.
  • Manage the ordering, delivery, off-hiring, and collection of plant and materials.
  • Ensure teams have the appropriate PPE and equipment for safe task execution.
  • Attend site meetings as needed.
  • Prepare job packs, including up-to-date utility statistics.
  • Perform other relevant duties as required.


Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, and Experience Required

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a civil construction role
  • HNC/HND or equivalent in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Strong background in primary and grid substations and cable systems, with experience in project delivery environments.
  • Valid full driving license.
  • Awareness of business, financial, and regulatory obligations
  • Proven experience as a Civils Supervisor managing both direct labour and subcontractor teams.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and manage expectations effectively.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Experience working with a Distribution Network Operator or as a subcontractor/framework partner on the electrical distribution network.
  • Project management knowledge is beneficial.
  • A safety qualification such as IOSH or CITB SMSTS is advantageous, as is experience with CDM regulations and ISO9001 quality processes.
