Purpose and Scope of the Job

• To sympathetically support learning disabled adults who have a variety of complex needs • To ensure that Safeguarding underpins each and every activity at Walton Lea • To work as part of a team to ensure learning activities are fun and purposeful as directed by the Learning Development Manager and to contribute to the learner’s learning journey • To dynamically assess risk as necessary • To work within Walton Lea’s ‘Dignity and Respect’ policies at all times • To communicate with colleagues, as appropriate, all relevant knowledge regarding learners • To report safeguarding issues immediately to the Safeguarding support worker/Safeguarding Manager • To respond professionally to learners to help them understand acceptable behaviours • To maintain daily learning records for each learner • To maintain effective records, digitally and on file as appropriate. • Promote good safeguarding practices by modelling good professional practice and enabling staff, volunteers and learners to find their own solutions where appropriate and give support to develop individual independence. • To ensure Walton Lea Partnership creates the best day possible, each and every day in a person-centred approach • Challenge practices/behaviours that do not comply with the Code of Conduct • Ensure the Health and Safety of supported learners, colleagues and visitors by following agreed systems of work • Complete daily Records of Work for learners • Oversee the safe use, maintenance and care of any tool/equipment on site

PERSON SPECIFICATION Skills and abilities

• Empathy with the aims, objectives and ethos of WLP to develop as a Centre of Excellence for learning disabled adults • Experience of working with adults who have complex care and support needs is desirable • Experience of working as part of a team and a ‘people’ person • Engage effectively with people in complex situations, to develop and sustain positive relationships • Self-motivated, flexible and an ability to use own initiative • Good organisational skills • An ability to adapt to change and be flexible • A positive and ‘can do’ approach • Ability to dynamically risk assess situations in different environments • Good communication skills, both verbally and in writing • IT skills to enable learner development • Desire to engage with training opportunities and continuous professional development

Education NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or working towards it.

Additional requirements: Clean driving licence – desirable
