Our specialist Rural Property Team, and several of its lawyers, have received recognition in both the Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners for the quality of the advice and service they provide to clients with rural property interests. Our team advises a wide range of clients, including high-net-worth individuals and families, private companies and trusts in all matters relating to the management, purchase and/or sale of their rural properties.

The world of rural property is a unique one, and our team are experts at navigating their clients through the quirky, weird, and wonderful challenges they face
Day to Day:
As an Associate, you will manage your own caseload of mixed rural property matters, establishing yourself as an expert as you develop strong relationships with referrer contacts and repeat clients. You will also assist Charlotte Brackley (Partner) on the more complex and involved matters coming through the department, with plenty of scope for you to assume the day-to-day responsibility for these matters under supervision.
While the instructions received by the department are varied, the bulk of the work centres around buying, selling and refinancing large country houses with land and farms, generally in the £3m-£10m bracket. Given the breadth of our expertise in this niche area of law, this position will provide a strong property lawyer with an excellent opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge in this area, as they progress upwards through the department.
What we look for:
- A qualified Solicitor or Legal Executive with prior experience dealing with high-value property transactions, including residential.
- Previous experience dealing with rural property matters would be an advantage but is by no means essential; what is important is a genuine interest and desire to develop your skillset in this specialist area.
- We do not tend to use PQE as the sole measure of experience, but we estimate this position would suit somebody with between 2-6 PQE. Ultimately, we are keen to hear from individuals who are currently at or feel ready to step into an Associate role, and who are keen to develop further as part of our specialist team.
- You will have experience in, or a keen interest to be involved in, marketing and business development activities which may involve getting your wellies on
