Role Overview

The Head of DevOps will play a pivotal leadership role within the organization, responsible for driving the strategic vision and implementation of DevOps practices across the software development lifecycle. This position will oversee the development, deployment, and monitoring of our application infrastructure and ensure that our engineering teams have the tools and processes in place to enhance collaboration, increase deployment frequency, and improve service reliability. The ideal candidate will possess a strong blend of technical skills, leadership abilities, and a passion for continuous improvement.

You will be focussing on infrastructure, automation, security practices and providing tooling solutions to streamline the path-to-live for development teams. The right candidate will have cloud (Azure, AWS etc) and Hashicorp (Terraform and Vault) certifications


Key Responsibilities

1 - Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive DevOps strategy aligned with the company's business objectives
  • Drive a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement across development, operations, and quality assurance teams


2 - Team Management

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing DevOps team, fostering an environment of innovation and accountability
  • Establish training and development programs to enhance team skills in DevOps practices, tools, and technologies


3 - Process Optimisation:

  • Identify gaps in existing operational processes and implement best practices to optimize the software development lifecycle
  • Facilitate the adoption of Agile methodologies and ensure effective project management practices are followed.


4 - Infrastructure Management

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable and secure infrastructure to support development and production environments
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices, leveraging tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar technologies


5 - Monitoring and Performance

  • Establish metrics and KPIs to measure the performance and success of DevOps initiaves
  • Implement monitoring and logging tools to ensure system health and performance, enabling rapid response to incidents


6 - Collaboration and Communication:

  • Foster strong relationships with product management, development, and operations teams to ensure seamless communication and collaboration
  • Serve as a liaison between technical teams and stakeholders, providing regular updates on project status, challenges, and strategic initiatives


7 - Security and Compliance

  • Ensure that DevOps practices adhere to security standards and compliance requirements
  • Implement practices to integrate security into the DevOps pipeline (Dev SecOps).


Experience Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in software development and operations, with at least 3 years in a leadership role focused on DevOps.
  • Strong understanding of cloud computing (AWS, Azure, GCP) and experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Proficiency in CI/CD tools and practices (Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI, etc.).
  • Experience with configuration management and automation tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and mentor others.
  • Experience of strategicially growing and managing teams
