Operating as the interface between the business and its clients the IT Business Analyst will work alongside other IT SMEs and the Project Team on understanding external and internal software requirements and translating those into solutions which need to be built. Requirements gathering and defining solutions for small, medium and large projects and supporting the rest of the delivery team through the project lifecycle.

Minimum 5 years’ experience in a software development environment, ideally within Financial Services

Principal Job Objectives

  1. Communicate with internal colleagues to understand the needs of departments and the organisation as a whole
  2. Facilitating the discussion of requirements among stakeholders and documenting solutions
  3. Undertake research and analysis to understand how a business or business area works, considering the people, organisation, processes, information, data and technology
  4. Use data modelling practices to analyse your findings and create suggestions for strategic and operational improvements and changes
  5. Consider opportunities and potential risks attached to suggestions you make
  6. Produce written documentation/solution designs to support your work, report on your findings and to present to stakeholders when necessary
  7. Ensure plans are made and processes are created to evaluate the impact of the changes made, including taking responsibility for overseeing and reporting on this evaluation
  8. To attend workshops with clients for requirements gathering and concept design
  9. Be flexible and pro-active in gathering and processing requirements to ensure objectives are met for the project and/or change request
  10. Prioritise and meet the demands of the business
  11. Work closely with IT and other department to ensure technical specifications are detailed and accurately reflect new/enhanced services agreed with client(s)
  12. To work with IT Project team in gathering all the requirements and answer both internally and externally any technical queries
  13. Assist the IT Project Team with implementation management and operational readiness
  14. Define the business problem and all the objectives of the project/change control in line with the commercial proposition
  15. Able to lead and support cross functional business process re-engineering activities and continuous methodology improvement efforts
  16. Successfully engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously
  17. Collaborate with developers, testers and other SME to establish the technical vision required
  18. Be able to complete CR solutions, impact and risk assessments, procedure and technical documentation and business case for change
  19. Creating solution documentation and wireframes where necessary
  20. Developing training literature and materials
  21. Assistance with acceptance and integration testing and developing project plans with the IT Project Team
  22. Understand and have experience of working with different methodologies ie. agile, waterfall
  23. Create and update change documentation, business requirements documents, functional and non-functional requirements and map out phases of development
  24. Take on project co-ordination where required and supporting the full project lifecycle
  25. To adhere to all measures within the ISO27001 standard, ensuring Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability
  26. Work in accordance with OPAL’s Consumer Duty policies and practices

Essential knowledge and experience required at recruitment

  • Business analysis, requirements gathering and design techniques
  • Change management and implementation management techniques and approaches
  • Experience of IT software delivery and change
  • Experience of creating Business Requirements Documents, Functional and Non-Functional Requirements, Requirement Traceability Matrix, Use Case Diagrams, Wireframes, Mock-ups and Change Request Documents
  • Understanding of the Financial Services Industry desired, particularly in Protection and Investments, Regulations and market conditions
  • Ability to work in a pressurised and fast moving environment
  • Attention to detail and ability to achieve manage to deadline
  • Ability to adapt to change with a flexible approach
  • Proactive in driving business efficiencies and enhancements
  • Problem solving, root cause analysis, trouble shooting
  • Ability to take preventive rather than corrective action

Additional Knowledge required to become fully competent

  • Excellent knowledge of Protection and Investment products
  • End to end knowledge of our administration and software systems
  • Understand and apply the ISO27001 standard
  • Understanding about the Pandora Software and abilities with proven competency and knowledge in the use of the Pandora software as both a front facing user and back office user.
  • Be able to ‘T-shirt’ size projects independently and quickly
  • To be able to communicate and articulate to our new and existing clients around OPALs system functionality mainly within the Pandora SaaS solution and all the other services we can provide i.e. call handling, administration, commission etc.
  • To undertake disciplines of accurate and timely reports to the senior members of the IT Department
  • To understand the relationships between Pandora, OPAL and the client
  • Excellent written communication and proven ability to provide business case reports based on our Pandora software and business solutions

  • Ensuring up to date knowledge of the systems, software, procedures, regulatory and other areas of working practices commensurate with the role
  • Ability to disseminate technical knowledge to colleagues and clients
