Quality Manager, Smethwick, up to £45k My client is a leading manufacturer of components for the Automotive Industry. Ensure compliance to the company’s Quality Policy, processes, and procedures. The company’s accreditation systems are maintained and improved to reduce waste and customer concerns to enhance the company’s reputation and profitability. Job Accountabilities:
  • The Overall responsibility for the upkeep, accuracy, and improvement of the company’s IATF 16949, ISO9001 & ISO14001 Manuals, Processes and Procedures.
  • Report to the rest of the Management Team on the performance of the company’s IATF 16949, ISO9001 & ISO14001 by way of the Management Review at least annually.
  • Support and host 3rd party Audits to maintain current accreditation. Any actions required from the audits to be answered in a robust manner.
  • Must be able to prioritise own workload and that of subordinates to achieve the desired results in a timely fashion.
  • Understand and contribute to both Core and Operational KPI indices – have full involvement in the company’s mission to achieve the targets set out by the Senior Management.
  • Involvement as a Core Team Member using the company’s Gateway APQP system.
  • Produce FMEAs for review by the APQP Team for new projects.
  • Produce Control Plans / Operator instructions for review by the APQP Team for new projects.
  • Gauge Design involvement & procurement along with creation of calibration and operating instructions as part of the APQP Team.
  • Perform & Manage Gauge MSA studies where required to ensure gauges are repeatable for use.
  • Responsible to manage & prepare PPAP submission to the customer in a timely fashion.
  • Must be able to use a variety of Measuring Equipment to ensure product validation is assured, including where required the company’s CMM & Faro Arm scanning machines.
  • Perform Capability studies using Statistical Process Control Methods where required.
  • Respond to customer complaints using robust ‘8d’ methods in a timely and efficient manner to avoid repeat concerns in partnership with the cross-functional team.
  • Manage internal issues by way of 8d & Plan-Do-Check-Act problem solving / management techniques in partnership with the cross-functional team.
  • Manage Supplier Concerns and performance – with full input into Supplier Vendor Rating and Approved supplier list.
  • Attend cross-functional meetings both internally and at customers to resolve customer concerns and introduce preventative and corrective initiatives.
  • Operator Training / Coaching to ensure process instructions are fully understood and validated by appropriate audit.
  • Responsible for Internal Audit completion – IATF16949-ISO9001, ISO 14001, Housekeeping, Product & Layered Process Audits as defined by the appropriate audit schedule.
  • Ensure Material data is added as required using the ‘IMDS’ system.
  • Overall responsibility for the Gauge Calibration procedures and ensure equipment is maintained in good working order including allocation of outsource calibration where required.
  • To liaise with production Team Leaders and Shift Support in a proactive manner informing them of any issues, etc.
  • To advise and assist the Quality Engineers & Quality Inspector where required, e.g., 8d Actions & product validation.
  • To ensure that specified PPE is worn, i.e., safety boots and hearing and eye protection where applicable.
  • Digitalisation of company manufacturing and Quality systems – full involvement and knowledge of company’s computer systems and outputs.
  • To carry out any tasks within the scope and abilities of the function other than those listed above. The Operations Manager may provide these either verbally or in writing, such as Expectations or improvement requests.
Key Issues:
  • Management of Quality Department and systems.
  • Ensuring Core and Operational Quality KPI Targets are achieved.
  • Scrap and Non-Standard Operations are correctly controlled and recorded.
  • Customer Liaison is effective, especially when dealing with concerns and problem solving.
  • On-time PPAP submissions.
  • Efficient APQP activities take place.
  • Gateway project management system is followed and supported.
  • Continuous Improvement activities within the manufacturing areas are identified and implemented.
  • Computer system is adhered and used.
  • Supporting Quality Engineering with 8d’s and action plans and support Team.
  • System, Layered, Housekeeping and product audits are carried out.
  • Control of the quarantine area.
  • Dealing with sub-supplier issues as they arise.
  • Flexibility to support all areas of the business as and when requires.
