Our client, a leading lender, is seeking an experienced and motivated Underwriting Manager to oversee their Underwriting and Administrative Departments. The successful candidate will work closely with Team Leaders to ensure all processes are adhered to, resulting in clear, auditable workflows, exceptional performance, and efficient delivery. The focus will be on performance and compliance management, alongside the training and development of all Underwriters and support staff.

Main Duties:

  • Process Mapping and System Integration: Utilise your extensive experience to develop and implement process mapping for all workflows from end to end, ensuring efficiency is central to all changes.
  • Workflow Management: Oversee the daily workflows and maintain high-quality output across the Underwriting department.
  • Training Delivery: Manage and deliver comprehensive training across the department to embed core processes within day-to-day Underwriting functions.
  • Business Requirements Communication: Effectively communicate core business requirements to ensure all teams perform in line with business objectives.
  • Meeting Management: Organise and oversee daily meeting schedules, including morning huddles.
  • Audit and Compliance: Manage and embed audit and compliance processes within the department, ensuring adherence to mandate processes and supporting the competency framework's training and development.
  • Performance Management: Oversee performance management processes, ensuring all direct and indirect reports are managed effectively.
  • Development Plans: Collaborate with HR to ensure all reports have ongoing development plans that align with their individual goals.
  • Training Plan Development: Continuously design and develop the Underwriting training plan, including both group and individual training, covering core processes, system knowledge, and specialised topics like legal and compliance.
  • Management Information and Data: Work with the Head of Finance to ensure accurate management information and data are available to support performance and target management.
  • System Development: Collaborate with the systems Project Manager and external third parties to support the continuous development of systems in line with processes, ensuring training is updated and delivered.
  • Stakeholder Management: Manage relationships with external stakeholders, specifically the solicitors panel, to ensure excellent service delivery.
  • Policy and Training Material Development: Assist in developing business user manuals, policies, 'How to' guides, and training materials.
  • Compliance Management: Manage credit policies and mandates, ensuring compliance and escalating non-compliance through audit processes.
  • Risk Reporting: Report all activities related to process and compliance risks in Underwriting to the Risk Committee.

Person Specification:

  • Organised Leadership: An organised leader with excellent attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Technical Proficiency: Expert user of Microsoft Office Suite and adaptable to different CRM systems.
  • People Management: Experienced in managing teams with strong influencing and communication skills.
  • Stakeholder Management: Proven experience in managing stakeholders, including external third-party resources.
  • Industry Experience: Extensive experience in lending, specifically in the unregulated lending space.
