Mechanical Designer – Job Description
This position involves developing and delivering the mechanical design for a significant subsystem within a direct air capture plant. This subsystem will be physically substantial, comparable in size to large structures, while maintaining cost efficiency and low maintenance requirements. We seek an innovative, collaborative individual to work within a small team on the design and testing of novel technology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop mechanical designs for a primary subsystem within the direct air capture solution.
- Collaborate with the performance team to create cost-effective, large-scale CO2 capture solutions.
- Coordinate with external research and technology suppliers to ensure a competitive, comprehensive solution.
- Interface with the systems team to integrate the subsystem into the larger plant design.
- Utilize supply chain data for cost analysis and maintain cost models for the design.
- Develop low-cost, low-risk methods for production and assembly.
- Support the deployment team in establishing a robust supply chain for the design.
- Manage the bill of materials for this subsystem.
Required Competence:
- Degree or equivalent qualification in engineering or science.
- Minimum of five years’ experience in mechanical design engineering within relevant industries, such as automotive or other large-scale manufacturing sectors.
- Proven ability to deliver mechanical designs for innovative systems, particularly with an emphasis on cost, manufacture, and assembly.
- Proficient in CAD software (preferably SolidWorks).
- Experience in the full lifecycle of designing, building, and testing a system.
