Legal Utopia is a LawTech business based in London that was founded in 2017. Its mission is to make law accessible and affordable to everyone, and in the 6 years since it was founded, it has successfully developed innovations into commercial market solutions that help identify the area within which legal problems fall, connect people with regulated legal service providers, as well as signpost them to other relevant services.

As part of Legal Utopia’s corporate strategy to deliver on its mission, it is continuing to heavily invest in the development of new technologies and solutions that progress positive engagement between the consumer market and the regulated legal professions.

A Web Developer is being sought to assist the business in a new project that requires a full-time andexperienced developer to deliver on the development and implementation of new websites across our domain portfolio. This work will bring fabulous, consumer-centric, and thoughtful web user-interface and experience designs to an otherwise complex circumstance for our customer. 

Recruitment Process:

1)      CV/Cover Letter Application: This will be accepted for submission via any online recruitment platform operated by Legal Utopia Limited or directly (by email only) to Mr Fraser Matcham, Director of Operations at fraser@legalutopia.co.uk; direct email application must also include answers to the pre-screening questions. Applications can be made up to 5pm (GMT) on 28th June 2024; applications after this date may not be considered.

2)      Application sifting: This will be conducted on the 1st July 2024. Applications that do not clearly meet the essential requirements of the job description, provide both a CV and cover letter, and answer the pre-screening questions will be automatically rejected. Unsuccessful applications will be notified in writing by 14th July 2024.

3)     Invitation to interview: This will be conducted between 2nd July – 13th July 2024. It will be a formalexploration of your application via video conference and last approx. 30-40 minutes including 10 minutes for any role exploration by the applicant.

4)     Second interview: This will be conducted between 2nd July – 13th July 2024. It will be an in-depthdiscussion on the project, role, resources, and company context, as well as the role the Web Developer willplay in supporting the project team and business. It will be

conducted via video conference and last approx. 1hr, including time to explore any further queries by the applicant.

5)  ​ Offer: This will be provided by email, and in writing, no later than 13th July 2024. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified by email no later than 14th July 2024.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement new websites across the Legal Utopia domain portfolio using React
• Create consumer-centric and thoughtful web user-interface and experiences working in collaboration with the Head of Design and the outputs of our consumer/end-user research activities. 
• Collaborate with the Senior Developer and other team members to deliver project goals. 
• Ensure websites are optimised for speed, scalability, and user experience using third-party tools to audit to identify improvements. 
• Maintain and update existing websites, ensuring they meet governance, product, design, legal, and technical requirements. 
• Troubleshoot and resolve website issues as they arise. 
• Manage your sprint task activity, logging your actions, hours, and activities for performance and auditing evaluation (Jira). 
• Manage and, with approval, made commits and deployments to update and maintain Legal Utopia’s web domain portfolio on a rolling-basis. 
• Meticulously perform and administer SEO to each web page and domain within Legal Utopia’s web domain portfolio using third-party auditing tools to identify improvements. 
• Implement and take responsibility for strategic web projects, including the development and deployment of 
• Manage all web domain certificates, ensuring seemly renewal and forever active web domain security.
• Take responsibility for the implementation and maintenance of all analytics and cookies using Google Firebase and Analytics, HotJar, Zoho, and other such third-party tools. 
• Assist the Senior Full Stack Developer in the implementation of product analytics requirements, as required, using Google Firebase. 
• Take responsibility for, and implement, various third-party web integrations. 
• Comply with all company policies, IT Governance and procedures reporting, ensuring comprehensive and timely filing of IT documentation, assets, and alike (Confluence).  
• Work to, and achieve compliance in, the WCAG Standards for web content accessibility 2.2 to ensure accessibility for all web users. 
• Adhere to all brand guidelines and design system in place, as well as our design principles. 
• Implement cutting-edge front-end technologies (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript) for a dynamic and interactive web experience. 
• Manage the domains (GoDaddy), the web deployment and hosting (Vercel, Amplify), encryptions and certificates (AWS, Route53).
• Assist with the maintenance and management of our web payment gateway Stripe API. 
• Manage and update web content using a custom (Django-based) content management system (CMS);
• Monitor and report on web performance metrics using third-party tools including Google Analytics, SemRush, and BugSnag. 
• Other subject reasonable tasks within your role and expertise as directed by your line manager.

Requirements:

Successful candidates must clearly evidence all the essential criteria in their application.

Essential:

• Proven experience as a web developer in a professional setting.
• Proficiency in front-end technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and frameworks like React.
• Experience with back-end development, including server-side languages like PHP, Python, or Node.js.
• Familiarity with database management systems such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Django.
• Strong understanding of web standards, accessibility, and best practices.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Experience with web optimisation for speed and scalability.
• Proficient in using third-party tools for auditing web performance.
• Experience in SEO and implementing strategic web projects.
• Familiarity with managing domain certificates and web security.
• Ability to implement and maintain web analytics and cookies using tools like Google Firebase, Google Analytics, HotJar, and Zoho.
• Experience with WCAG Standards for web content accessibility 2.2.
• Knowledge of brand guidelines and design systems.
