We are currently recruiting for a skilled Engineering Manager to lead our Breakdown and Repair teams based at the London Gateway Port. In this critical role you will manage all direct and indirect members of the Breakdown, Welding, Electronic Repair and Apprentice Teams and maintain equipment and asset availability, reliability and safety in line with goals, KPI’s and business objectives.


About the role:

  • Lead, manage, and coordinate the activities of the teams to ensure optimal productivity and efficiency
  • Oversee the Breakdown, Welding and Electronics repair technicians in maintaining and repairing machinery and equipment to ensure minimal downtime and disruption to operations
  • Ensure systems and processes are in place to ensure all tasks are performed to the highest quality standards
  • Ensure that method statements and risk assessments of all the maintenance activities are documented and implemented;
  • Guide and mentor direct and indirect reports, fostering a learning environment that encourages growth and development
  • Ensure all activities comply with London Gateway & DPW World health and safety policies and regulations, promoting a safe working environment. To complete regular interaction with all reporting groups and to proactively look for solutions to new and longstanding issues
  • Monitor team performance, providing feedback and implementing improvements where necessary
  • Efficiently allocate resources and personnel to meet shift requirements and operational demands.
  • Support the business with coordinating the delivery and commissioning of equipment on site in a safe and organised manner.
  • Oversee the Engineering Apprenticeship programme and to manage Apprentices performance and development as to support the growth of the business. Working with Apprentice Monitors and education providers to deliver a best in class apprenticeship.
  • To collaborate with teams and employees across all areas of the business
  • Champion LEAN methodology, develop personal understanding through training and support other areas of the Engineering Department with Lean projects.


Your Key Skills:

  • Excellent knowledge of equipment maintenance/engineering within a large operation (Manufacturing, Industrial/Rail, etc)
  • Strong understanding of time critical maintenance programmes
  • Professionally qualified in mechanical and/or electrical discipline.
  • Experience in management of equipment suppliers.
  • Experience and knowledge of HSE regulations related to equipment maintenance and activities.
  • Experience in project management, budget preparation and execution.
  • Experience of EAMS (Enterprise Asset Management System) specifically modules related to Maintenance, Inventory and Procurement.
  • Development of maintenance training programs and prior expertise in managing/coordinating apprentice programs
  • Excellent communication and personal skills with the ability to collaboration and diplomacy skills
