Job Title: Principal Mechanical Design EngineerLocation: StevenageTerm: 12 MonthsIR35: INSIDEHourly Rate: £50P/HKey Skills: Mechanical Design, Engineering, Creo, 3D CAD, Defence, FMEA & structural design, Design for Manufacture/AssemblyWe are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in complex enclosure design to join our team.Our work spans a wide range of demanding applications, from electric field sensors for deep ocean exploration to high-power electric motors and converters. Operating in integrated product teams, our engineers are engaged throughout the entire product development lifecycle—from initial concept through to final delivery.In this role, you will work closely with our Mechanical Design team and cross-functional engineering specialists to create robust mechanical solutions that support our cutting-edge defence products.The Role:So, what will you be doing as a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer?Leading mechanical design and proving activities across piece parts and assemblies for both prime and variant products.Supporting manufacturing processes and resolving production issues and design-related defects.Collaborating on environmental and functional testing, including on-site trials.Engaging with suppliers and the procurement team to resolve technical queries.Managing and reporting on your daily engineering activities to support project delivery.Contributing to the development and clarification of engineering requirements to optimise design simplicity, cost, and lead time.Hosting or participating in detailed design reviews with multi-functional engineering teams.What are we looking for in our next Principal Mechanical Design Engineer?Proven experience in Mechanical Design Engineering, ideally within a defence or high-integrity engineering environment.Proficient in Creo 3D CAD design tool.A strong understanding of a range of relevant engineering areas, including several of the following:Manufacturing processes & tolerance studiesMass property calculations & material selectionDesign for Manufacture/Assembly (DfM/A)FMEA & structural designEnvironmental gasket sealing & test proceduresDefence standards and product lifecycle knowledgeIndustrial validation and review processesExcellent team-working skills with the ability to operate across multi-functional teams.A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with an appreciation for other engineering domains.My client is keen to get this position filled ASAP, so if you feel you have the skills and desire to provide passion and drive as the next Principal Mechanical Design Engineer, this is the opportunity for you***PLEASE NOTE***Security Clearance (SC) or eligibility to gain is required to be considered for this vacancy
