Job Title: Sous Chef
Location: SE1 2HHReports To: Executive Chef / Head Chef
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Sous Chef to join our dynamic culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for cooking, a strong attention to detail, and the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment. As the Sous Chef, you will be responsible for assisting the Executive Chef in the daily operations of the kitchen, including food preparation, staff management, and ensuring that all dishes meet our high standards of quality and presentation.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in Menu Planning: Work closely with the Executive Chef to plan and develop new menu items, ensuring they align with the restaurants concept and customer preferences.- Food Preparation: Oversee and participate in the preparation and cooking of food, ensuring that all dishes are prepared to the highest standards.- Quality Control: Ensure that all food products are consistently prepared and served according to the restaurants recipes, portioning, cooking, and serving standards.-Kitchen Management: Supervise kitchen staff, including line cooks, prep cooks, and dishwashers. Provide training and guidance as needed.- Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels, order supplies as needed, and ensure proper storage and labeling of ingredients.-Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure that the kitchen operates in compliance with all health and safety regulations, including food handling, sanitation, and cleanliness standards.- Cost Control: Assist in managing food costs and wastage, ensuring that all kitchen operations are conducted within budgetary constraints.- Staff Scheduling: Assist in scheduling kitchen staff to ensure coverage during peak hours while maintaining labor cost efficiency.-Problem Solving: Quickly address and resolve any issues that arise during service, maintaining a calm and efficient kitchen environment.- Collaboration: Work closely with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless communication and service delivery.- Innovation: Stay updated on industry trends and bring fresh ideas to the kitchen, fostering a culture of creativity and continuous improvemenents
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a professional kitchen, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or sous chef role.- Education: Culinary degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
- Skills: - Strong leadership and communication skills. - Excellent cooking skills with a deep understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures. - Ability to multitask and work efficiently under pressure. - Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge: Understanding of food cost management and inventory control.
- Certifications: Food Safety and Sanitation certification required.
Working Conditions
- Hours Full-time position, with flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy items, and work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
