This means as an apprentice (JRA26) you will follow the Level 5 Journalist Apprenticeship standard (curriculum) and work towards an industry recognised qualification the NCTJ Diploma in Journalism. If you have a degree or the NCTJ diploma in Journalism and want to train as a Journalist at the BBC we recommend you apply to the Level 6 Journalist Apprenticeship instead.ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA To be eligible for an apprenticeship at the BBC you must:Be 18 years old or over by the time the apprenticeship begins in September 2026Have lived in the UK continuously for the last 3 years prior to the start of the apprenticeshipBe legally eligible to work full-time in the UK for the entire duration of the apprenticeshipNot currently be enrolled in another apprenticeship programme whether with the BBC or another organisation.To apply for this scheme you must also:Not have completed or be studying for the NCTJ diploma or a journalism qualification at the same level or higherHave achieved English GCSE at Grade 4/C or above; or National 5 (Scotland) at C or Functional Skills Level 2; or equivalent qualification.For candidates under the age of 19 years at 8th September 2026: To complete the apprenticeship you must have achieved Maths and English GCSE at Grade 4/C or above or National 5 (Scotland) at C or Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent qualification.
