Role Purpose

Sylvania Group, a leading total solution lighting company, is dedicated to providing responsive and professional IT services to its internal customers. The Information Technology function spans the entire company, supported by the "IT Software and Development Group." This team develops and implements new software packages while maintaining existing applications. Feilo Sylvania operates globally, utilizing desktops and laptops, primarily running Windows, and an IBM iSeries network with additional servers. Key applications include Infor XA ERP, Microsoft Office 365, Lotus Notes, Hybris, Aurea CRM, and various specialized software.


Key Responsibilities

Under general supervision, applies systems analysis and design techniques to evaluate business problems and devise computer programs to resolve them. Responsibilities include gathering information from users, defining work problems, developing complete specifications, programming, implementing required programs, and performing post-implementation tasks. Tasks are performed under the supervision of a senior team member.

  • Application Analysis and Design: Perform detailed analysis of data and functions, investigating and evaluating potential solutions. Specify customization changes, design file and data structures, screens, outputs, and inputs. Define processing rules, interfaces, security, and backup procedures, and operational procedures. Review analysis and design, develop a working prototype, and produce comprehensive analysis and design documentation.
  • Application Development and Testing: Understand the development environment. Develop customization, code, and interfaces according to specifications. Test customizations, code, and interfaces against agreed criteria. Produce necessary documentation to support the development and implementation process.
  • Acceptance Testing: Convert or load test data, execute all aspects of the acceptance test plan, and demonstrate readiness for use. Complete and finalize all relevant manuals to ensure comprehensive documentation and user guidance.
  • Installation and Implementation: Install and test software, ensuring proper functionality. Convert or load data as required, verifying successful integration and operation within the system.
  • Application Maintenance and Support: Assist users with application usage, assess implications of errors or enhancements, and specify necessary corrections or changes. Advise users on solutions and contact third-party help desks as needed. Develop and test application changes, install new versions, restart application operations, and update documentation accordingly.
  • Provide second level technical support to users of MIS services
  • Undertake any other duties as required by the Global IT Director.


Person specification and background

  • Excellent knowledge of international business processes and Infor XA (Release 6/9 or equivalent ERP system)
  • Proficiency in Infor Browser, Integrator, Infor IDF, and iSeries
  • Strong programming skills in RPG, CLP, SQL, and Java
  • Expertise in IBM Client Access/ACS, interface methodologies, and DB2/DB400
  • Familiarity with Interform Output Management Software and Business Intelligence tools (analytics)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Good spoken French or German are beneficial
  • Experience in an international manufacturing environment
